APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

We appreciate the interest you have shown in San Diego Transit by applying for the position of Bus Operator. All applicants must, at the time of application, also have the ability to obtain a Class B Drivers License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and have the ability to read, write and understand the English language.

THE POSITION:

Responsible for the safe operation of a public transit bus over an assigned route according to schedule. It is necessary for the operator to maintain a pleasant, courteous and helpful attitude toward the public at all times. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: drives with due regard to the safety and comfort of passengers and to the maintenance of time schedules; collects fares and issues transfers; answers questions regarding route and time schedules; must write reports concerning daily duties; be willing to work flexible hours; and other related duties as assigned.

San Diego Transit has the responsibility to provide the best qualified Bus Operators to our riding public, therefore, if you have any of the following violations on your current driving record you will be disqualified from further consideration for any current position open now.

• Any failure to appear.
• Any suspended license.
• Driving while under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
• Negligent, careless or reckless driving.
• More than three moving violations in the previous three years.
• All accidents will be reviewed on an individual basis and may be cause for disqualification.
• No felonies/misdemeanors in the last seven years.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must have an acceptable driving record.
• Must possess valid California license at time of application.
• Must possess or have ability to obtain a valid Class B California drivers license.
• Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including physical, psychological, and drug and alcohol.
• IF HIRED, documentation verifying your identity and authorization to work in the United States will be required.

A COPY OF APPLICANTS DRIVING RECORD (H6) FROM THE DMV MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION. IF APPLICANT HAS RESIDED IN CALIFORNIA LESS THAN THREE YEARS, A COPY OF THE APPLICANTS DRIVING RECORD FROM PREVIOUS STATE OF RESIDENCE MUST BE SUBMITTED IN ADDITION TO CALIFORNIA RECORD.
