SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, the Transportation Manager and the Manager of Service Operations, a Service Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising and monitoring all activities of Bus Operators and field activities on a daily basis. Other essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Essential Functions: • Monitors Operators in our Bus Yard to ensure that safe speeds are maintained and operators have successfully logged on to their vehicles. • Monitors Operators in the field to ensure that all safe practices are being followed and that we are meeting our goals for on time performance. • Performs minor maintenance work as necessary to start the vehicle or repair the farebox and/or DCU. • Counsels Bus Operators in procedures, performance and behavior, engages in corrective counseling when necessary. • Meets buses to assist with law enforcement in eviction of unruly passengers. • Conducts accident investigations and generates reports. • Posts advance notice of discontinued stops and takes down same when clear. • Keeps constantly aware of conditions of streets, bus stop areas, broken bus stop posts and reports same. • Monitors and takes action on the daily performance of Bus Operators. • Is aware of the agency’s need to remain compliant with all rules and regulations regarding ADA. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Keeps check on all headways to ensure that bus service on all routes is maintained. • Ability to prioritize assignments, so impact on service is minimal. • Supervises loading and unloading of bus services at any special event in the city. • Sets up detours for parades and construction work on routes. • Generates Observation Letters and Reports to the Manager of Service Operations. • Interacts with transit passengers. • Keeps a daily log of all activities. • Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A demonstrable ability to: write letters, memoranda, and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English and the ability to generate basic service analysis using Excel.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must have and be able to renew a California DMV DL-51 Medical Certificate and be able to perform the physical demands of the job such as walking and stooping, sitting for long periods, reaching overhead, and occasional lifting (must be able to independently lift up to 40 pounds). Must be able operate a motor vehicle, including public transit buses, and is able to perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer keyboard and 10-key. Work may at times require more than 10 hours per day to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed primarily in an office type environment. May require travel to external agencies.
Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s)
One year of verifiable experience (with SDTC or another transit employer) as a Bus Operator with an exemplary work performance record. • Additional experience with SDTC in a training, safety or dispatch position would be helpful. • Must have and maintain the ability to drive a bus in revenue service if needed (valid Class B license, a California DL-51 Medical Certificate and Verification of Transit Training (VTT) form). • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
GENERAL:
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, including a urine drug screen administered by the company physician and a background investigation.
SALARY RANGE: Starting Salary: $45,500 - $71,024
