SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Network Operations Manager designs, implements and performs networking and server administration functions to support all organizational computing resource systems. Performs high level administrative functions including; enterprise switching and routing equipment configurations and maintenance; coordination of disaster recovery strategies and develops and coordinates the agencies network security schema. Other essential duties and responsibilities of the Systems Engineer II position include, but are not limited to, the following:
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Essential Functions
Perform integration, implementation, configuration and routine maintenance of enterprise computing systems, enterprise switching and firewall devices, data storage arrays, and wireless access devices.
- Perform network administration tasks related to internal and perimeter network devices, network security, enterprise email services, Active Directory Policies and LAN and WAN network management, and application server maintenance.
- Maintain network equipment and servers using update schedules for computer resources to include, Unix, Windows NT servers, network equipment cabling.
- Provides recommendations for system equipment upgrades and network expansion projects. Maintains system documentation and change management processes pertinent to specifications of systems and meeting operational needs.
- Troubleshoots and resolves network issues using TCP traffic sniffers or network monitoring tools, to insolate problems and document changes to routing equipment or protocols.
- Function as the Network Security Coordinator performing tasks relating to security evaluations, remote server access, and provides assistance to engineers systems support staff and provides on going training and documentation on new system implementations.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Technical Writing of Procedures, Manuals, and Network Drawings using Microsoft Visio.
- Other Duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations, ability to read, understand, and apply MTS policies and regulations and union labor contracts; ability to write letters, memoranda, and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; ability to speak clearly, distinctly, and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions; skill in effectively supervising subordinates in order to achieve company goals; skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and ability to learn and use other software that we might have or acquire.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to: perform physical demands of the job, such as walking, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching for overhead files, and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 15 pounds); operate a motor vehicle; and perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key. Work may at times require more than 8 hours per day and/or irregular hours to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed primarily in an office type environment. May require travel between agency locations and external agencies.
Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s)
Possess a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 5 years of experience performing networking and system administration functions in a advanced enterprise network environment.
Special Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of Disaster Recovery Planning and Business Contingency Strategies; knowledge of Windows 2000/2003 Server , Exchange 2003, Unix systems, and TCP/IP routing protocols to include DNS, DHCP, IPV6, DES, 802.11a-g; IP Sec, Security Protocols, VPN tunneling, and perimeter security devices such as firewalls, and IDS systems. Knowledge of Nortel or Cisco Routers and Switching Equipment, Legato Software required.
GENERAL:
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, background and consumer credit check, psychological, and drug and alcohol testing.
SALARY: Range 11 ($51,636 - $82,749)
