Message From The Chairman

Hello: My name is Harry Mathis, Chairperson of the Metropolitan Transit System Board–MTS. We are the agency responsible for moving 250,000 people in San Diego County to their different destinations every day. We do this by bus and trolley, and also administer paratransit and taxi cab services. We are a major partner in this community and want to continue contributing to its progress. Our region is unique and its people and its quality of life are known worldwide. We want to play our part in making sure that these essential characteristics of the region are preserved and are planning to create a viable transit system to meet most of your needs.

This website is designed for you, and we welcome your use of it. You will find key information about our transit system as we have developed a very useful application, the Trip Planner, to guide you so you can go to work, visit friends and family, and give your car a break and enjoy a different experience exploring your community. You will also find links to other transit sites and will obtain information about special services, fares and other metropolitan transit partners.

We have included information about our future plans and expansions in what we are calling transitfirst, our upcoming strategic plan to serve your mobility needs well into the new century. If you are interested in biking, van pooling, or school pooling, you can find maps and other information that will allow you to plan your trips leisurely. You can also see how you can become a member of the Clean Air Club and join the many San Diegans who are trying different transportation modes and getting to know exciting communities and making new friends.
