Forty Students to Earn New Laptops from MTS and Coca-Cola

Laptop Scholarship program gets students thinking about the benefits of public transit

San Diego, CA – Forty graduating seniors from San Diego County high schools have an opportunity to earn a new laptop in the 12th annual San Diego Metropolitan Transit (MTS) and Coca-Cola Laptop Scholarship essay contest.

“To date, over 400 students have received brand new laptops thanks to our partnership with Coca-Cola Refreshments and the San Diego County Office of Education,” says Paul Jablonski, chief executive officer of MTS. “This program is a way of giving back to the community by helping students get the tools they need to be successful. It’s also a way to get them thinking about public transit and encourage them to become riders or even consider it as a future career.”

To be eligible, students must be a senior at an accredited high school in San Diego County and write a 1,000-word essay about how public transit can benefit the region and people of San Diego.

The contest deadline is Friday, April 11, 5 p.m. Entrants who meet the early application deadline, Friday, March 14, 5 p.m., also have an opportunity to win an iPad, an MTS Regional Monthly Pass, or gift cards for the Hard Rock Café or iTunes.

Applications and additional information can be found online at www.sdmts.com or at The Transit Store, 102 First Avenue, downtown San Diego.

MTS operates more than 90 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every day more than 275,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS services. For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
