MTS Christmas and New Year Holiday Service Schedule

Extended Services on New Year’s Eve Offers Safe Alternative to Driving for Revelers.

San Diego, CA – San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will offer extended bus and Trolley services New Year’s Eve and operate modified schedules for some routes through New Year’s Day.

Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24: Premium Express bus routes will operate a modified service schedule with decreased frequency. All Trolley lines and MTS urban, Express, and local bus routes will operate normal weekday schedules.

Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25: All Trolley lines will operate every 30 minutes, MTS urban and local bus routes, and Express Route 20 will operate a Sunday service schedule. There will be no service on all other Express routes including the Premium Express and rural routes.

Dec. 26, 27, 30, and 31: Premium Express bus routes will operate a modified service schedule with decreased frequency.

New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31: Extended service will be available on all three trolley lines with two additional later round trips each. Also, Routes 2, 7, 30, and 901 will all have one additional departure from downtown after the New Year is rung in.

New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1: All Trolley lines, MTS urban and local bus routes, and Express Route 20 will operate a Sunday service schedule. There will be no service on all other Express routes including the Premium Express and rural routes.

MTS Access subscriptions are cancelled Monday, Dec. 23 through Wednesday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day, and again Wednesday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day. Passengers with subscriptions who require transportation on those days must call two to three days in advance to arrange their trip.

MTS is also offering a special holiday promotion with the “Friends Ride Free” special fare on Christmas and New Year’s Days. Any paying passenger can bring one friend along to ride for free on any MTS Trolley or bus route on these two days.

Additionally, The Transit Store and MTS Regional Telephone Information will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day, with MTS Regional Telephone Information closing at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

Jan. 2: Normal schedules will resume for all MTS Bus and Trolley routes.
