MTS Extends Transit Services for New Year's Eve

MTS encourages San Diegans to let MTS be their designated driver

San Diego, CA – San Diego Metropolitan Transit Services (MTS) Chief Executive Officer Paul Jablonski announced today that bus and trolley services will be extended on New Year’s Eve to provide party-goers with a safe and convenient way to travel safely.

On New Year’s Eve, all three trolley lines will have additional trips departing downtown at 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. Additionally, Routes 2, 7, 30, and 901, the four major downtown bus routes, will have additional 2:30 a.m. departures.

“We want to encourage everyone who celebrates the New Year in downtown San Diego to allow our bus and trolley operators to be their designated drivers,” says Jablonski. “A one-way fare is just $2.50, which is much less expensive than a DUI that will cost thousands, if not more. Our drivers are professional and courteous and will get you home, or close to home, safely. Our expanded service gives everyone plenty of time to ring in the New Year.”

MTS also oversees Taxicab administration, another safe alternative to getting home instead of getting behind the wheel while under the influence. MTS is partnering with the San Diego Police Department and the Gaslamp Quarter Association to expand the taxicab stand on G Street from Fourth to Sixth Avenue on New Year’s Eve. The stand opens at 7 p.m. and numerous cabs will be standing by

“MTS is a longtime partner with organizations, such as the San Diego Task Force, who promote safe travel for San Diegans during the holidays and we’re proud to work with them,” says Jablonski. “I’d also like to remind San Diegans that MTS operates services year-round, so anytime they’ve had one drink too many, public transit is safe way to reach their destination.”

The additional bus and trolley service being offered on New Year’s Eve is made possible by a partnership the Coca-Cola Company.
