MTS Announces Service to Petco Park for Opening Day, Transit Tuesday Discount Returns

Fans encouraged to travel early and buy day passes when taking MTS

Baseball season is returning to San Diego on Monday, April 6 and the Metropolitan Transit System will be offering special event Red Line Trolley service to help fans get to the game easily, and avoid the hassles of downtown traffic and parking. The first pitch on opening day will be at 4:05 p.m. and fans are encouraged to ride early and buy day passes.

The San Diego Trolley will operate its Red Line special event service between Qualcomm Stadium and PETCO Park (Gaslamp Quarter Station) every 15 minutes beginning at 1:33 p.m. Fans can park for free at Qualcomm Stadium and at most MTS park-n-rides on the special event line. For more information, go to www.sdmts.com.

MTS has partnered with the Padres to offer Transit Tuesdays, where public transit riders can get $6 off admission on tickets priced $14 or more. From now through the end of the season, fans who ride the bus, Trolley or COASTER to Tuesday home games can show their ticket, day pass or monthly pass at the PETCO Park ticket office and receive the $6 discount. As a bonus MTS monthly pass holders may purchase advanced game tickets at the Padres advance ticket sale window at the stadium prior to any Tuesday home game.
For opening day and other home games, to save time and avoid ticket lines after the game,

MTS encourages fans to buy day passes before boarding the Trolley on their way to the ballpark. One-day Day passes cost $5 for unlimited rides on MTS buses and the Trolley. Ticket sales agents will be located at high volume stations. For all other stations, purchase tickets from the station ticket vending machines.

Special Event Line service will resume approximately 2.5 hours after the first pitch at 6:28 p.m. and will continue service for 45 minutes after the final out. Fans traveling outside of these times should use the Blue Line or Orange Line service from the 12th and Imperial Transit Center or take the Orange Line from the Gaslamp Quarter Station.

Fifteen-minute service will also be provided on the Trolley's Orange Line, serving PETCO Park via the 12th & Imperial Transit Center and the Gaslamp Quarter station.

The Blue Line service will operate every 15 minutes from South Bay until 3 p.m., then every 7.5 minutes throughout the evening commute hours. The Blue Line provides service to PETCO Park via the 12th & Imperial Transit Center.

The Green Line will operate a normal schedule. The Green Line provides transfer service to the Orange Line (Grossmont Transit Center); the Blue Line (Old Town Transit Center); and the Special Event Line (Qualcomm Stadium).

Bus routes 11, 901, 929 arrive directly adjacent to PETCO Park and bus routes 3, 4, 16 and 25 provide downtown service just a short walk from the stadium. Most bus fares are $2.25 each way.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System transports millions of San Diegans every year with over 90 bus routes and 53 miles of rail. For further information on fares, routes, and schedules, or to plan a trip, visit www.sdmts.com or call 511.
