MTS & Sycuan Offer New Year's Eve Celebrants Free Rides On the Trolley and Bus after 6 pm!

Trolley and Key Bus Routes to operate “Night Owl Service” on New Year’s Eve


San Diego, CA – The holiday season in San Diego is in full swing and the Metropolitan Transit System, the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaah Nation and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving are sponsoring free rides on New Year’s Eve plus all night “Night Owl” service on select Bus and all Trolley Routes.


• Free Rides begin at 6:00 pm on December 31st on the San Diego Trolley’s Blue, Green and Orange Lines and any MTS Bus Route. Free rides continue on all routes until the end of each route’s scheduled service for that day.

• Free Night Owl service will continue on the San Diego Trolley’s Blue, Orange, and Green Lines and on MTS Bus Routes 7, 11, and 901 until dawn.

“MTS thanks Sycuan and MADD for sponsoring New Year’s Eve Free Rides, to make travel safer for everyone in the community, said Paul Jablonski, Chief Executive Officer of MTS. “Riding transit is a great way to begin the New Year. Riding public transit just one day a week can is one of the most effective ways people can reduce their carbon footprint. And remember, 2009 also starts off with the New Year’s Day Friends Ride Free fares.”

On January 1, 2009, MTS Bus and Trolley service will operate a Sunday schedule along with the Friends Ride Free program, which makes it possible for each passenger who pays a fare on January 1st with either pass or cash to bring a “friend” along for the entire ride for free.
