Trolley Dances 2008

Trolley Dances brings dance to the streets and people to the dance ––using San Diego’s Trolleys as the vehicle.

Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater (SDDT) is excited to team up with the Metropolitan Transit System to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Trolley Dances on September 27th & 28th, and October 4th & 5th. Patrons ride the trolley to various locations where original dance performances are staged at stations or within short walks of stations to delight and engage them.

TROLLEY DANCES 2008 begins at the Hazard Center Trolley Station.  Check-in is across the Trolley Station in front of the Hazard Center YMCA.

The performances are staged along the Green and Blue Lines. In addition to the dances, patrons will enjoy the scenic views and provocative performances alongside the San Diego River. Company Director Jean Isaacs says, "I've welcomed back some of our crowd favorites, including Monica Bill Barnes and invited some new choreographers who will begin to define the next 10 years of Trolley Dances”.  Over the past decade, more than 15,000 patrons have turned out to see original dances created by 30 choreographers and featuring more than 450 dancers.

Trolley Dances 2007 Highlights are going to be aired on KPBS-TV on September 30, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. and October 2, 2008 at 3:00 a.m.  The documentary, produced by Mark Freeman and funded by the Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC), provides a view into the audition process, rehearsals, on-site developments, and interviews with dancers, choreographers and audience members as well as containing performance footage. The video shares the perspectives of MTS CEO Paul Jablonski, the audience, and the dancers and explores Trolley Dances unique challenges and artistic excellence.
