MTS For Earth!

Congratulations! By riding MTS Bus and Trolley, you have already made a significant contribution to a healthier planet.

Did you know that automobile use is the top contributor of emissions that cause climate change? Individual transportation creates much more harmful carbon dioxide emissions than industry and commerce. So by riding the trolley and bus, you are helping keep our air clean.

By staying off roads and reducing congestion, you are helping our region save millions of dollars in lost productivity.

  • Use of public transportation saves 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline each year. That’s more than 11 million gallons of gas a day!
  • By going green, you are saving green. A family that uses public transportation instead of driving a car saves more than $6,250 a year… and that was before gas climbed to $3.50 a gallon!

See how much you can save!

All year, MTS will be celebrating the contributions its riders make toward a healthier planet. Remember, every time you ride a bus or trolley, you’re doing it for Earth!

Here are a few events celebrating

Balboa Park: The Nation’s Largest Urban Cultural Park

Balboa Park is one of the greenest places in all of San Diego. Help celebrate this cultural and botanical wonder by taking MTS right to the Park.

The Trolley connects with Route 7 at the City College Station. The Route 7 Bus, operating every 12 minutes, will pick you up and drop you off steps away from the entrances to museums, theaters, cafés and restaurants, beautiful gardens, or the Zoo.

2008 summer highlights in Balboa Park include:

Tinkering at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center: a combination of hands-on exhibits and a “Tinkering Studio” where families can build new creations.

The San Diego Museum of Art hosts the acclaimed Georgia O’Keeffe and the Women of the Stieglitz Circle, a display of approximately 80 paintings, drawings, and photographs.

Two exhibits on Southern California’s precious water supply: Water: H2O=Life will be at the Natural History Museum and Beyond Reasonable Doubt: Water and Culture in a Changing Climate will be at the San Diego Museum of Man.

For more information on these and the many other Park activities, visit www.balboapark.org.
5th Annual San Diego River Days

Come discover the San Diego River with more than 30 different events of all kinds from the mountains to Ocean Beach. San Diego River Days runs from May 10 to May 18.

Enjoy a mountain hike to a waterfall, walk and bike along the River Trail, or join in a 5K run. Pitch in for a volunteer project to beautify the river or a neighborhood canyon. How about a nature walk or tour of the historic treasure Presidio Park?

With several Mission Valley events planned, people are encouraged to take public transit to help save our natural resources and money. And with bikes OK on board MTS trolleys (passengers must board their bike at the rear of each car), join us for a bike ride.

For event listings and details, visit www.sdriverdays.org or call 619-297-7380.
