Important Trolley Service Information for Padres Opening Day

Mobile ticketing available for every Padres home game this year

San Diego – San Diego Padres Opening Day at Petco Park vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers is fast approaching. The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is scheduling extra Trolley service and offering mTicket to accommodate 50,000 fans expected in East Village on Monday, April 4.

MTS is advising fans to avoid parking hassles downtown, purchase Trolley day passes right on their mobile phones using the free mTicket app, and park for free at an MTS park-and-ride facility. The East Village Opening Day Block Party begins at 10 a.m. First pitch for the game is at 4:05 p.m. All three Trolley lines will have departures a minimum of every 15 minutes most of the day and drop fans off at the doorstep to Petco Park. Special Trolley service for Monday, April 4, is as follows:

Green Line (best station to get to the game: Gaslamp Quarter Station)

  • Trains depart stations every 15 minutes most of the day. Service will increase to every 7.5 minutes (between Qualcomm Stadium Station and downtown) 2 ½ hours prior to first pitch. After the game, trains will depart every 7.5 minutes until crowds diminish.

UC San Diego Blue Line (best station to get to the game: 12th & Imperial)

The mobile ticketing feature, mTicket, allows fans to purchase and store Trolley special event tickets on their mobile phones at any time. Multiple mTickets can be purchased on one mobile phone too, making it easy for families and friends traveling together. Passengers without a Compass Card can avoid the $2 card fee by using mTicket. The free mTicket app is available in both the App Store and Google Play.  Just search for “mTicket” and download.

North County fans who have the $12 RegionPlus Day Pass purchased from a COASTER ticket machine or from the COASTER smartphone app can ride to Santa Fe Depot and transfer to the Green Line for no additional cost. COASTER riders with one-way fares are required to purchase a Trolley fare at Santa Fe Depot before transferring to the Trolley.

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services.
