Trolley Service Information for Old Town Festivities this Weekend

Green Line Trolley runs every 15 minutes, drops off festival-goers in the heart of Old Town

San Diego – Fiesta Old Town, a San Diego tradition since 1983, will run today through Sunday and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is recommending festival-goers avoid the large crowds by taking the Green Line Trolley to the Old Town Transit Center for easy access to the celebration and to dodge parking hassles.

Additionally, MTS activated mTicket, its mobile ticketing app for Trolley special events, so passengers can purchase and store tickets on their mobile phone and bypass the ticket vending machine. Multiple mTickets can be purchased on one mobile phone too, making it easy for families and friends traveling together. Passengers without a Compass Card can avoid the $2 card fee by using mTicket. The free mTicket app is available in both the App Store and Google Play.  Just search for “mTicket” and download.

Large crowds attend Fiesta Old Town each year on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The celebration includes three music stages, cantina garden, low rider car show, historical demonstrations, equestrian performances and more. For more information visit the Fiesta Old Town website.

The Old Town Transit Center serves the Trolley’s Green Line and is steps away from the Fiesta Old Town celebration. Trains will depart a minimum of every 15 minutes throughout the day. MTS recommends that attendees park at one of many free park and ride stations along the Green Line. Stations with high capacity parking situated closest to the Old Town Transit Center are as follows:

  • Morena/Linda Vista: 199 free parking spots (4-minute ride)
  • Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots (15-minute ride)
  • Grantville: 254 free parking spots (19-minute ride)
  • El Cajon Transit Center: 469 free parking spots (39-minute ride)

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services. MTS set a new record in FY 2015 with 96.7 million riders. For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
