Zip! Pow! Boom! It’s Easy Getting to Comic-Con with MTS!

MTS mTicket puts Trolley ticket vending machine in the pocket of attendees

San Diego – Comic-Con attendees can say hello to expedient Trolley service and wave goodbye to waiting in line at ticket vending machines or ticket booths. The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is boosting Green Line Trolley frequency to every 7.5 minutes during Comic-Con and has activated its mobile ticketing app, mTicket, for the second consecutive year.

With mTicket, passengers can purchase and store Trolley tickets right on their smartphone immediately. Multiple passes can be purchased on one phone too, making it easy to travel with friends and family. The mTickets, for one-, two-, three-, four- and five-days, are available for $5.50, $10, $13, $16 and $20 respectively. Users of mTicket do not need a Compass Card and can activate the mTicket at any time on the day of travel prior to boarding the Trolley. The mTickets are only valid for Trolley services and do not work to ride the bus. The app is free and is available through the App Store or Google Play. For more information, visit www.sdmts.com/mTicket.asp.

MTS has also printed a limited quantity of commemorative Comic-Con day passes. The five-, four-, three-, and two-day commemorative passes are sold at ticket booths at select Trolley stations or The Transit Store at 102 Broadway in downtown San Diego. The commemorative day passes provide unlimited rides on all Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes as do standard day passes purchased from Trolley ticket vending machines. Day Passes from a ticket machine will include an additional $2 cost for a Compass Card if needed.

Additionally, MTS will substantially increase service on the Green Line from Wednesday to Sunday, which provides direct service to the Trolley stations next to the Convention Center. Trains are scheduled to serve the Convention Center every 7.5 minutes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Details about the expanded Comic-Con Trolley service can be found on the MTS Comic-Con webpage at www.sdmts.com/Trolley/ComicCon.asp.
Trolley stops with the highest capacity for free parking available along the Green Line are as follows:

  • Hazard Center Station: 1,500 free parking spots (lower level only)
  • Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots
  • El Cajon Transit Center: 469 free parking spots
  • Old Town Transit Center: 412 free parking spots
  • Grantville Trolley Station: 404 free parking spots

Comic-Con is also easily accessible from the Orange and Blue Lines. Both stop at 12th & Imperial Transit Center where riders can transfer to the Green Line. Downtown is also served by many bus routes, including the new Rapid 215 (from SDSU via El Cajon Boulevard) and Rapid 235 (from Escondido via I-15).

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services. MTS is expecting to set a new record this year with more than 97 million riders. For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
