Dump the Pump and win!

Are you pinching pennies during the recession? Or concerned about your carbon footprint?

The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), along with other transit systems across the country, will celebrate the fourth annual National Dump the Pump day on Thursday, June 18, 2009. Dump the Pump day encourages people to get out of their cars and ride public transportation, in hopes of raising awareness of the financial benefits of transit.

CONTEST CLOSED

To celebrate, MTS is giving away a free monthly pass! The winner will be a chosen on Dump the Pump day, June 18.

Public transportation can save people money, conserve gasoline, and reduce the harmful greenhouse gases emitted into our environment.

Consider these benefits (source: APTA):

  • Public transit is the responsible environmental choice: individuals switching to public transportation can reduce individual carbon emissions by 4,800 pounds per year.
  • Saving one gallon of gas eliminates 19 pounds of carbon emissions. Public transportation produces 95% less carbon monoxide for every passenger mile traveled.
  • Public transit simulates the economy and creates green jobs: for every $1 invested in public transit, $6 is generated in economic returns.
  • Public transit reduces our dependence on foreign oil, saving 900,000 automobile fill-ups each day - 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline per year.
  • A typical family can save more than $9,000 per year in San Diego if just one person uses public transportation, according to the American Public Transportation Association. (priced at gas costing under $2 per gallon)

Entries will be numberd and selected by random number generator random.org. Must be a San Diego County resident to win. No purchase necessary. Pass has a value of up to $72. One entry will be valid per person.
