MTS Blue Line and Orange Line Temporary Service Changes as Trolley Renewal Continues

Temporary changes to Blue and Orange Line stations and services begin tomorrow as MTS upgrades stations and installs new track

San Diego, CA – The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will temporarily relocate three Blue Line Trolley stations and suspend Orange and Blue Line services between the Santa Fe Depot and City College Transit Station starting this week as part of ongoing efforts to improve and modernize transit services.

To support the reconstruction of stations along the Blue Line, MTS is temporarily relocating three trolley stations immediately south of their current locations. Harborside Station will be relocated Thursday, Sept. 26, Barrio Logan Station Saturday, Sept. 28, and Pacific Fleet Station Thursday, Oct. 3. Blue Line service will continue to serve these stations on all trips.

Construction will take approximately five months and result in new platforms to accommodate the new low-floor trolley cars, as well as new track and station amenities such as shelters and digital signs displaying next-arrival times.

MTS is making every effort to minimize disruptions to service, but Blue Line passengers may experience delays after 7 p.m. on weeknights and weekends during the project.

Beginning Friday, Sept. 27, at 10 p.m. until Monday, Sept. 30, at 4 a.m., Blue Line service will terminate at the Beyer Blvd. station as work continues on a signaling and crossover project to improve Trolley operations. During the temporary suspension in service, MTS will provide bus service between San Ysidro and the Beyer Blvd. station. The bus stop for this service will be located next to the station platform at Beyer Blvd. and at the south end of the transit circle at San Ysidro.

The temporary closure of Trolley services between the Santa Fe Depot and City College Trolley Station occurs all day Saturday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Sept. 29. Regular services will resume for the beginning of service Monday, Sept. 30. Another temporary closure will occur along this section beginning Saturday, Oct. 5, with services resuming Monday, Oct. 7. During the temporary closures, MTS will replace aging pavement at the intersections of C Street and Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

For passengers affected by Orange and Blue Line closures between Santa Fe Depot and City College stations, MTS bus Routes 2 and 992 provide service along Broadway. Additionally, a supplemental shuttle will run along Broadway starting at midnight Saturday and after 11 p.m. Sunday, with service ending both nights shortly after 1:30 a.m.

MTS operates more than 90 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every day more than 275,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS services. For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
