MTS Schedules Extra Service for Padres’ Home Opener

Adds a sweet treat for fans traveling early

San Diego, CA –Padres baseball returns on Tuesday, April 9, and MTS has scheduled extra service for the Green Line and Blue to get people out to the ball game in time for the first pitch.  And, while supplies last, MTS will give fans a Coca-Cola beverage and a box of Cracker Jacks to encourage fans to get on board early.

Extra service on the Green Line – which now goes from Santee all the way to ball park area stations – begins at 1:30 p.m. with more frequency between the Qualcomm Stadium station and downtown. Blue Line extra service begins at 1:45 p.m. from San Ysidro.

Starting at 1:30 p.m., the first 150 baseball fans who board a PETCO Park bound Trolley at Qualcomm Stadium, Spring Street, or the Chula Vista H Street Station will get a free beverage and a box of Cracker Jack.  Fans must have a valid Trolley ticket or pass.  The beverage and box of Cracker Jack are courtesy of Coca-Cola Refreshments of San Diego and MTS.

With the MTS Trolley’s new operating plan, all three Trolley Lines provide direct service to PETCO Park. The new Green Line goes straight to the Gaslamp Quarter Trolley Station, which is steps away from PETCO Park entrances. Blue Line and Orange Line passengers should debark at 12th& Imperial for PETCO Park. Fans who ride the Trolley avoid traffic hassles and can park for free at one of many park-and-rides available on MTS’ three light rail lines.

The first pitch for the sold out home opener is at 3:40 p.m. and fans are encouraged to purchase their fare and be on board a Trolley at least 90 minutes before game time.

After the game, the last Green Line trolley that will go all the way to Santee departs at the Gaslamp Quarter Station at 10:06 pm; and the last trolley to SDSU departs the Gaslamp Quarter Station at 11:36 pm.  At the 12th & Imperial Transit Center, the last Blue Line train to San Ysidro departs 12:00 am and the last Orange Line train to El Cajon departs at 12:03 am.

MTS encourages fans to buy Day Passes before boarding the Trolley on their way to the ballpark to save time and avoid ticket lines after the game. Day Passes are $5 for people with Compass Cards. There is a $2 fee for Day Passes purchased without Compass Card. Trolley Ticket sales agents will be located at high volume stations.  For all other stations, purchase a one-way ticket or Day Pass from the station ticket vending machines.

Once you have a Compass Card, keep it and reload it. Your Compass Card can also be used to purchase and load other adult fare products without any additional charge.

Bus routes 11, 901, 929 stop at PETCO Park and Bus Routes 3, 4, 16 and 25 provide downtown service just a short walk from the stadium. All buses will run on a regular schedule.

MTS operates more than 90 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
