MTS Schedules Extra Service for Padres’ Opening Night and Opening Day Games

San Diego, CA – Padres baseball returns on Sunday, March 30th and MTS has scheduled extra service for the Green Line to get people out to the ball game in time for the first pitch.


All three Trolley Lines provide direct service to PETCO Park. The Green Line goes straight to the Gaslamp Quarter Trolley Station, just steps away from PETCO Park. Blue Line and Orange Line passengers should disembark at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center for PETCO Park. To ensure fans get to the Park in time to see all the action, MTS encourages riders to purchase their fare and be on board a Trolley at least 90 minutes before game time.


Sunday, March 30th Opening Night Game – First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.
· Extra service on the Green Line begins at 2:00 p.m. from Santee with trains departing every 15 minutes. From Qualcomm Stadium, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Trolleys will depart every 7.5 minutes. Blue Line and Orange Line will operate according to the published schedules.
· After the game, the last Green Line Trolley to Santee departs at the Gaslamp Quarter Station at 10:06 pm; and the last trolley to SDSU departs the Gaslamp Quarter Station at 11:36 pm. At the 12th & Imperial Transit Center, the last Blue Line train to San Ysidro departs at 12:00 a.m. and the last Orange Line train to El Cajon departs at 12:03 am.


Tuesday, April 1st Opening Day Game – First Pitch is at 3:40 p.m.
• The Green Line provides service every 15 minutes between Santee and PETCO Park throughout the day. Extra Green Line trains will depart Qualcomm Stadium toward the ballpark between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
• After the game, Green Line trains will operate more frequent service. Regular service will resume once crowds have dispersed. The last train to Qualcomm departs at 11:38 p.m.
• Blue Line will also offer more frequent service before and after the game.
• The Orange Line will provide more frequent service after the game as needed.
• And to welcome fans aboard the Trolley for the Tuesday, Opening Day Game, MTS will provide fans going to the game with complimentary Cracker Jack and a drink courtesy of Coca Cola (while supplies last). MTS Ambassadors will be at these stations from 1 pm – 2 pm:
      – Blue Line: H Street Station
      – Green Line: Qualcomm Stadium
      – Orange Line: El Cajon Station

Padres fans who ride the Trolley avoid traffic hassles and can also park for free at one of many park-and-rides available on MTS’ three light rail lines including Qualcomm Stadium. 

North County fans who have the $12 RegionPlus Day Pass purchased from a COASTER ticket machine or from the COASTER smartphone app can ride to the Santa Fe Depot and hope on the Green Line. All other COASTER riders are required to purchase a Trolley fare at the Santa Fe Depot before transferring to the Trolley.

MTS encourages fans to buy a Day Pass before starting their transit trip to save time and avoid ticket lines after the game. Day Passes for MTS Bus and Trolley are $5 for people with Compass Cards. There is a $2 fee for Day Passes purchased without Compass Card. Trolley Ticket sales agents will be located at high volume stations. For all other stations, purchase a one-way ticket or Day Pass from the station ticket vending machines. Day Passes can also be purchased at any Albertson’s store. Once you have a Compass Card, keep it and reload it. Your Compass Card can also be used to purchase and load other adult fare products without any additional charge.

MTS Bus routes 11, 901, 929 stop at PETCO Park and Bus Routes 3, 4, 16 and 25 provide service that are just a short walk from Petco Park All buses will run on a regular schedule.
