MTS TROLLEY COVERS HOLIDAY BOWL GAME AND BIG BALLOON PARADE WITH EXTRA SERVICE

Day Passes Best Ticket to Ride

San Diego, CA – The Metropolitan Transit System is planning to “blitz” Qualcomm Stadium and Harbor Drive with enhanced Trolley service for the Big Bay Balloon Parade on the morning of December 29th and the Holiday Bowl game at Qualcomm Stadium one day later on December 30th.

Holiday Bowl Game Service on December 30th - Kickoff at 5:00 p.m.

Fans going to see Oklahoma State University play Oregon are encouraged to take the Trolley and to arrive Qualcomm Stadium early for pre-game activities and avoid congestion and crowded trolleys.

At 12:30 p.m. extra Blue and Green Line Trolleys will begin departing Downtown Trolley Stations with direct service to Qualcomm Stadium from Downtown.

By 1:00 p.m. Blue and Green Line Trolleys will be arriving at Qualcomm Stadium about every 8 minutes. The Trolley’s Qualcomm Stadium Station is just steps away from the Gate K entrance.

Following the game, Blue and Green Line trains will provide continuous departures until crowds have cleared. Signs and Customer Service Representatives will help direct fans to the correct departure platform.
Fare Information

A one-way Trolley Fare to Qualcomm is $2.50 ($1.25 for riders who are Seniors (60+), Disabled, and Medicare and have proper ID) and at $5 the one-day Day Pass is the best value and speeds boarding if you are planning to make several trips during the day. Day Passes are good for unlimited trips on the San Diego Trolley and most MTS Bus Routes. To purchase the one-day pass, go to any Trolley Station ticket machine, onboard any MTS Bus, at ticket booths at select Trolley Stations, at The Transit Store at First Avenue and Broadway in downtown San Diego or online at the Transit eStore at www.sdmts.com.

Commemorative Day Passes with the team logos are also available (while supplies last) at Trolley Ticket Booths at select stations, at The Transit Store or online at the eStore. Online purchases must be made by midnight on December 22, 2008 and will be mailed. Multi-day Day Passes for two, three, or four-days can also be purchased at Trolley Station Ticket Machines and at The Transit Store and online.
Bowl Game Travel Tips:

• Avoid rush hour congestion, travel early, and allow plenty of time to get to the stadium to enjoy the pre-game festivities.

• Enjoy post-game presentations and avoid the crowds leaving the stadium immediately after the game.

• Purchase a Day Pass before boarding to expedite your post-game trip.

• Fans staying in downtown or Mission Valley hotels are encouraged to walk to the closest Trolley Station;

• Fans who want to drive to a Trolley Station to park and ride, can go to Old Town, Morena/Linda Vista, Grantville, Grossmont Center, Amaya Dr. (La Mesa), El Cajon Transit Center, Gillespie Field, or Santee Town Center trolley stations. Plan to arrive early because since the game is on a weekday, regular commuters will also be using the park & ride lots. Please observe all signs: cars parked in unauthorized lots could be towed.
Big Bay Balloon Parade: Monday December 29th at 9:00 am

This family-friendly Parade is one of San Diego’s best end-of-year Holiday traditions. And the San Diego Trolley brings thousands of people downtown to see their favorite balloon characters, listen to high school and college marching bands, and enjoy the college bowl teams’ school spirit.

In Mission Valley, the Trolley will be providing direct service from Qualcomm Stadium to downtown starting at 7:30 am. These special event trains will stop at all stations between Qualcomm, the Santa Fe Depot and stations in the Convention Center area. From Tijuana and South Bay communities, board Blue Line trains to the Santa Fe Depot; from East County, ride Orange Line trains to the America Plaza station. Both stations are a short walk to the Parade Route on Harbor Drive. There are also dozens of MTS Bus Routes serving downtown from surrounding communities and North County Transit District (NCTD) provides service to downtown from North County coastal communities via COASTER trains.

For schedule, route, or station information for game day and parade Trolley service and other NCTD and MTS bus and rail routes to popular visitor attractions like Balboa Park, Coronado, Mission Beach, La Jolla, LegoLand, Old Town, the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld visit www.sdmts.com or call 511; TTY/TDD at (619) 685-4900, or InfoExpress (automated information system) at (619) 685-6283.
