Construction Begins to Replace Downtown Trolley Tracks and Will Close One Lane on C Street Between Eighth and Ninth Avenues

SAN DIEGO -- Construction begins Monday, August 11th on improvements to the San Diego Trolley’s tracks on C Street in Downtown San Diego.  During construction which is expected to be completed by September 21, 2008, Trolley service will be mostly unaffected.

During the six weeks of construction, the eastbound vehicle lane on C Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues will be closed to automobile traffic. The Ninth Avenue intersection will be closed one full weekend to allow the Crossover to be installed.  There will be some late evening or weekend single tracking of the Trolley along C Street.

The $700,000 project includes replacing the ageing tracks between Eighth and Ninth Avenues and removing the Eighth Avenue Crossover and installing the new crossover on Ninth Avenue.  The funds for this project are from Federal, State, and Center City Development Corporation funds.
