The MTS Bus Division is committed to providing safe, clean and reliable buses for our Operators and Customers. The Maintenance Department operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance, or his/her designee, duties are assigned to the Maintenance Department’s personnel to accomplish the repair and preventative maintenance of all company equipment and property. Other essential duties and responsibilities of the Foreman position include, but are not limited to, the following:
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Essential Functions
- Plans, schedules, assigns, and directs the work of mechanics and other Maintenance Department personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of bus and automotive equipment in the mechanical, air-conditioning and electrical, body and paint, and service and cleaning areas.
- Processes accurate work orders of repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Maintains time keeping system for assigned crew to ensure proper payment of employees.
- Maintains records of work activities and prepares reports using the computer.
- Monitors budget.
- Enforces work rules and policies.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure work is performed correctly to pre-established standards.
- Instructs mechanics on difficult repair work.
- Prepares electronic requisitions for parts on the (Ellipse) Maintenance Management System.
- Supervise proper collection of vehicle fluids for analysis.
- Ensures vehicles are available for service to meet sign-out requirements.
- Enforces safety in the workplace to include personal protective equipment compliance.
Other duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in the supervision and/or support of special events.
- Provide coverage on other shifts.
- Assist in tracking of warranty coverage.
- Assist in security for the workplace.
- Monitor the work of contactors working on the property.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS and MTS Bus policies and regulations, ability to read, understand, and apply MTS policies and regulations, and union labor contract. The ability to learn and use computer software used to manage the Maintenance operation and any new software that we may have or acquire; ability to write letters, memoranda, and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; ability to speak clearly, distinctly, and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel; ability to promote and work within a teamwork atmosphere; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignment deadlines without detailed instructions; effectively supervise subordinates in order to achieve company goals; verify the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports prepared by others.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job such as walking, stooping, sitting, bending, and reaching for overhead files and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 10 pounds). Must be able operate a motor vehicle and to perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key. Work may at times require more than 8 hours per day or require irregular days/hours to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed anywhere on MTS property, in vehicles owned by MTS or in an office type environment. May require travel to external agencies.
Special Requirement: Must be able to work all shifts and all days of the year.
Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s)
The qualified individual must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a strong knowledge of mechanical equipment with three to five years of verifiable maintenance experience in bus or heavy duty equipment with at least one year experience in a supervisory capacity. Experience with CNG fueled vehicles is a plus. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a California Class B license with passenger endorsement, and medical certificate.
GENERAL: Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations, including but not limited to, a pre-employment physical including urine drug screen administered by the company physician and background check.
SALARY RANGE: $44,604 - $71,024
