The Classroom Day Pass program is a great way for students from preschool-age to 18 to learn how to use public transit while seeing the fun sites around San Diego.
Day Passes are available at a special discounted rate of $1.50 per participant for all MTS and NCTD routes. Upgrades are available for the COASTER, Coronado/San Diego Bay Ferry and Amtrak too.

Request your Classroom Day Pass by mail and telephone
Trips not confirmed by the coordinator and paid for in advance are not eligible for the Day Pass fare. Whether you order by mail or telephone, you can pick up the passes in person or have the passes mailed.

Send your check to the address above. Your request and payment must be received no later than 14 working days prior to date of travel to assure delivery of passes. Calls are returned Monday through Friday. Only two attempts will be made to return your call.
To Pick-up your Classroom Day Passes in San Diego or North County
If you do not want us to mail the passes for trips that have been confirmed by the coordinator, then they MUST BE picked up two days or more prior to the date of travel, during the hours indicated below:

Changes, cancellations and refunds policies
Due to scheduling restrictions, passes not picked up at least two days prior to your trip will result in your trip being canceled. No exceptions.
Rain: If you wish to reschedule your trip because of bad weather, please call the coordinator and leave a message prior to the start of your trip.
Cancellation: Please give us 48 hours notice of cancellation so we can reschedule your trip. There are no refunds on Classroom Day Passes, but if you need to cancel your trip, we will be happy to give you a credit for a future trip. Please call (619) 233-9558 and leave a message.
To receive a credit, your group pass must be in our office at least one day before the travel date (no "post mark" dates apply). Please hand-deliver to: MTS Day Pass Coordinator, C/O San Diego Transit, 100 16th St, San Diego CA 92101 OR at North County Transit District, 810 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, 92054, Receptionist Desk.

How do I book a field trip?
To book a field trip, we need at least 14 business days to plan your trip. Call the hotline and leave a detailed message about the trip. The coordinator will call back within two working days. Only confirmed trips are eligible for the Classroom Day Pass discounted fare.
Who can ride at the special Classroom Day Pass rate?
Students up to the age of 18 (pre-school to high school)
One chaperone for every five students also qualifies for the special discounted fare. More chaperones are welcome for full fare.
Can any size group use a Classroom Day Pass?
A minimum of 15 people qualifies for our Classroom Day Pass group rate. If you're planning on traveling with a larger group, we may have to place you on more than one bus or Trolley. NCTD buses may not be able to accommodate large groups due to variations in bus size on routes.
Is travel allowed anytime?
The bus and Trolley can accommodate group travel only during non-peak hours - 9 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. on weekdays, after 6 P.M. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
Will everyone have a seat?
Seating is on a first-come, first serve-basis. During busy times of the year, some riders may have to stand for part of or the entire trip.
What about changing plans at the last minute?
Please notify us at least 48 hours prior to the day you pick up your passes if there will be a change in the size of your group. Call the coordinator and tell us how many students and how many adults will be part of your group.
COASTER
Special round trip fare on selected trains only of $3.00 per person. The COASTER is a commuter train and does not operate regular hours during the week. (See schedule for times - click here). Additional fare required for transfer to MTS Bus and Trolley. Travel during non-peak hours Monday through Friday. Maximum of 135 student and adults per group on a scheduled train. Not all trains are available at the group rate.

AMTRAK
Take a field trip by train up the coast to Solana Beach, the Mission San Juan Capistrano or many other educational and fun places that are within easy reach aboard Amtrak California Pacific Surfliner.
Amtrak California "Kids N' Trains" program makes it easy and affordable to take your class for as little as $5.00 per person round trip.

CORONADO/SAN DIEGO BAY FERRY
Take a field trip across the San Diego bay on the Ferry. Combine the ferry outing with Bus or Trolley and add $1.50 per person.
The ferry is $2.00 per person.
