MTS Service Schedule for New Year’s Holiday

San Diego – San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus and Trolley services will operate modified schedules for the New Year’s holiday. Important scheduling information includes:

New Year’s Eve (Sunday, Dec. 31): All Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes will operate normal Sunday service schedules. To accommodate party-goers, MTS has three Trolley lines and 22 bus routes with stops in the downtown area including Rapid 215 (SDSU – downtown) and Rapid 235 (Escondido – downtown). Rapid 215 runs every 15 minutes most of the day with stops along the mid-city corridor. Rapid 235 runs every 30 minutes most of the day with stops along the I-15 corridor.

The last scheduled departures for popular services are:

  • Rapid 215 (from Santa Fe Depot to SDSU): 12:02 a.m. and 1:02 a.m.
  • Rapid 235 (from Santa Fe Depot to Escondido): 10:04 p.m.
  • UC San Diego Blue Line (from America Plaza to San Ysidro): 11:48 p.m.
  • Sycuan Green Line (from 12th & Imperial Transit Center to SDSU): 11:36 p.m.   
  • Orange Line (from Santa Fe Depot to El Cajon): 10:21 p.m.

New Year’s Day (Monday, Jan. 1): All Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes will operate a Sunday service schedule. The following routes will not operate on New Year’s Day:

  • MTS Express Routes 50, 60, 110, 150 and 870
  • MTS Rapid 237 and Rapid Express Routes 280 and 290
  • MTS Rural Routes 888, 891, 892 and 894
  • Routes 972,973, 978, 979 (Sorrento Valley COASTER Connection)

Support Services:  MTS Information & Trip Planning will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31 and closed on Monday, Jan. 1.  The Transit Store, Compass Service Center, and Customer Service offices will be closed from Dec. 31 – Jan. 1. Customers who need MTS information on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, can visit the MTS website or download the mobile app OneBusAway for real-time information. All offices will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2 with regular business hours.

Friends Ride Free on Monday, Jan. 1! MTS is offering its special holiday promotion called Friends Ride Free on New Year’s Day, allowing each paying passenger to bring one friend on the bus and Trolley for no charge. Please visit the holiday service schedule webpage for more details.
