MTS Service Schedule for New Year’s Holiday Weekend

Extra late-night Trolley Service added for NYE

San Diego – San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus and Trolley services will operate modified schedules for the New Year’s holiday weekend. MTS will also be running late-night Trolley service out of downtown San Diego to accommodate party-goers.

MTS modified scheduling is as follows:

New Year’s Eve (Saturday, Dec. 31): All Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes will operate normal Saturday service schedules. MTS will also be offering late night Trolley service from downtown sponsored by Coca-Cola. MTS will have 12 extra train departures after midnight in all directions. Late-night train departures include:

  • Green Line (from 12th & Imperial Transit Center to SDSU): 12:21 a.m., 12:51 a.m., 1:21 a.m., 1:51 a.m., and 2:21 a.m. 
  • UC San Diego Blue Line (from America Plaza to San Ysidro): 12:18 a.m., 1:03 a.m., 1:48 a.m., and 2:33 a.m.
  • Orange Line (from Santa Fe Depot to El Cajon): 12:19 a.m., 1:19 a.m., and 2:19 a.m.

New Year’s Day (Sunday, Jan. 1): All Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes will operate normal Sunday service schedules.

New Year’s Day Observed (Monday, Jan. 2): All Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes will operate a Saturday service schedule.

From Dec. 31 – Jan. 2, the following bus routes will not operate:

  • MTS Express Routes 50, 60, 110, 870
  • MTS Rapid 237 and Rapid Express Routes 280 and 290
  • MTS Rural Routes 888, 891, 892 and 894
  • Routes 972,973, 978, 979 (Sorrento Valley COASTER Connection)

Customer Service:  On New Year’s Eve, The Transit Store and Customer Service Call Center will be closed. The MTS Information & Trip Planning Office will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Compass Card Call Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  On New Year’s Day, The Transit Store and all customer call centers will be closed. Customers who need MTS information on Sunday can visit the website (www.sdmts.com), or download the mobile app, OneBusAway. Automated routing/scheduling information is also available 24/7 through the Info-Express line, 619-685-4900. On Jan. 2, the MTS Information & Trip Planning Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Transit Store and all customer call centers will be closed. The offices will reopen with regular business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Friends Ride Free on Monday, Jan. 2! On the New Year’s Day Observed, MTS is offering a special holiday promotion called Friends Ride Free allowing each paying passenger to bring one friend on the bus and Trolley for no charge.
