Old Town
It is time for Día de Los Muertos in Old Town San Diego! This pre-Hispanic tradition originated in Mexico and pays tribute to loved-ones who have passed away. The holiday is celebrated with uniquely decorated ofrendas (altars), elaborate costumes and face-painting, and time spent with family and friends.

Special Events:
- Altar Tours: Stroll through Old Town at your own pace and discover the altars crafted by local businesses and museums.
- Weekend Mercado: Shop amazing art and crafts on Saturday, October 31 & Sunday, November 1, 2026 along San Diego Avenue and Harney Street.
- Catrina Content: On Sunday, November 1 the annual Catrina Contest will take place
- Candlelit Procession: On November 2, join our annual candlelit procession, a beautiful tradition that illuminates the streets of Old Town as we honor those who have passed.
