The festival commemorates the day the Philippines gained independence from the United States on July 4, 1946. It aims to support the enduring bond between the two countries and celebrate the rich heritage of the Fil-Am community.
The festival is presented by API Initiative. The API Initiative promotes and advocates for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities through arts and culture, civic engagement, leadership development, outreach, education, technical assistance and training, and research, data collection and evaluation.
