And Away They Go! MTS Introduces New Promotion Offering Riders Discounted Fares and Admission to the Del Mar Race Track

Pony Express ticket includes free transfers to COASTER train and shuttle to entry gate

San Diego –   The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has partnered with the North Country Transit District (NCTD) and the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club to provide the Pony Express – a discounted round-trip transit fare plus admission to the Del Mar Horse Races for as low as $12 per person. 

The Pony Express includes free transfers from the Trolley or bus to the COASTER and a shuttle from the Solana Beach Train Station to the entry gate. The Pony Express promotion offers a fun, affordable, and easy day in coastal Del Mar for families.

The summer season runs Thursday – Sunday, now through September 10. Various promotions are taking place throughout the season including Taste of New Orleans (Aug. 5), Donuts Day (Aug. 6), Uncorked Wine Festival (Aug. 19), Tacos & Tequila Festival (Aug. 26), Pacific Classic and Flightline Cap Giveaway (Sept. 2), and Family Fun Day (Sept. 3). How to Get There:

UC San Diego Blue Line and Green Line Trolley: 
Take the Trolley to Santa Fe Depot or Old Town Transit Center via the UC San Diego Blue Line or Green Line and transfer to the COASTER.

Orange Line Trolley:
Take the Trolley to the Courthouse Station in Downtown San Diego. Walk two blocks west to Santa Fe Depot.

COASTER Transfer:
The Pony Express ticket allows MTS passengers free transfers on the COASTER. From either Santa Fe Depot or Old Town Transit Center, passengers take the COASTER train north to the Solana Beach Train Station. The racetrack has shuttles running throughout the day from the train station to the racetrack entry gates. MTS also has employees dedicated to helping plan individual trips. Pony Express tickets are available for purchase on the day of use sale only. Passengers can purchase a Pony Express ticket on the PRONTO app and at MTS ticket vending machines. Advanced sales are not available.
