Very limited parking available on campus; public transit is the best option for attendees
San Diego – The 14th Dalai Lama is giving a public address at UC San Diego on Friday, June 16 at 9 a.m. and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is running extra bus service due to anticipated large crowds and very limited parking.
Attendees should plan to arrive on campus well before 9 a.m. to allow sufficient time to walk to the event. MTS has a number of bus routes that reach the UC San Diego campus. Below are options for passengers taking public transit to the Dalai Lama’s public address:
- Route 150 Express (Every 15 minutes; Downtown – Old Town – UC San Diego)
- Route 201/202 Super Loop (Every 7 ½ minutes; UTC – Noble - UCSD Medical Center – UC San Diego)
- Route 41 (Every 15 minutes; Fashion Valley Transit Center – VA Hospital – UC San Diego)
Attendees should use the Gilman & Myers stop for all three routes to access the UC San Diego campus. MTS recommends attendees use a park-and-ride lot at a Green Line Trolley station, take the Green Line to the Old Town Transit Center, and transfer to the Route 150 Express. Parking will be limited at Old Town due to the regular morning commute. Some of the best park-and-ride lots on the Green Line include:
- Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots (14 minutes to Old Town)
- Morena/Linda Vista: 200 free parking spots (4 minutes to Old Town)
- Grantville: 254 free parking spots (19 minutes to Old Town)
Attendees can use the MTS Trip Planner function or OneBusAway app to find the transit trip that works best.
