Day Passes Now on Compass Card at San Ysidro

MTS Launches Introductory program at San Ysidro Transit Center

Trolley riders buying day passes at San Ysidro will be the first to get their Day Pass on a Compass Card. Select ticket vending machines begin selling 1-day passes on Compass Card on Monday, April 11 at the San Ysidro Transit Center. And for one week, each rider who purchases a $5 Day Pass receives a complimentary Compass Card.

“MTS is introducing the Day Pass on Compass Card at the San Ysidro Station first to benefit passengers at our busiest station and meet the demands of riders who want to be able to use the Compass Card without buying a monthly pass,” said MTS Chief Executive Officer Paul Jablonski. “Soon, Day Passes on Compass Card will be available system-wide.”

From April 11-17, the $2 fee for the Compass Card will be waived and riders will receive a free Compass Card with the purchase of the $5 Day Pass. MTS Ambassadors will be at the San Ysidro Station to help riders learn how to purchase and reload their Compass Cards. A Compass Card can last up to five years with proper care. MTS encourages people to keep their cards and reload them.

The 1-day passes will only be sold out of six designated ticket machines located mid-platform at the San Ysidro station. Ambassadors will be on hand seven days a week to assist passengers to follow the step-by-step bilingual instructions posted on the machines and on the screens. Other passes and tickets will be available at the ticket machines at the south end of the station.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System transports more than 80 million riders a year on over 80 bus routes and 53 miles of rail. For further information on fares, routes, and schedules, or to plan a trip, visit www.sdmts.com or call 511.
