MTS Boosting Service for Women’s March and Monster Jam; Operating Regular Schedule for MLK Holiday

Passengers encouraged to use Compass Cloud ticketing app to avoid ticket lines

San Diego – The Metropolitan Transit System is increasing Trolley service to accommodate two large-scale events in downtown San Diego on Saturday. Both the 2019 San Diego Women’s March and the annual Monster Jam at Petco Park are expected to attract more than 50,000 people to downtown San Diego throughout the day. Additionally, MTS will be running a regular weekday schedule during Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on Monday.  

2019 San Diego Women’s March (10 a.m. – Waterfront Park)

Trolley schedules for the Women’s March are as follows:

Sycuan Green Line (Best Station to access the March – County Center/Little Italy):  Beginning at approximately 8:22 a.m., Sycuan Green Line trains will run every 7.5 minutes from SDCCU Stadium to downtown San Diego and every 15 minutes from Santee to downtown.

Orange Line: Service will be increased to every 15 minutes at 8:15 a.m. from Arnele Avenue Station in El Cajon to downtown San Diego.

Diego Blue Line: Service will operate every 15 minutes from San Ysidro to downtown San Diego throughout the day.  

Passengers using the UC San Diego Blue Line and Orange Trolley line are encouraged to transfer to the Sycuan Green Line at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center, then exit at County Center/Little Italy station. Passengers are encouraged to travel early, as trains will be at capacity closer to the event time, and to skip the ticket lines by using the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app.

Route 992 to the Airport

To accommodate Women’s March participants, Harbor Drive will be closed to all traffic. As a result, MTS Route 992 to the Airport will not serve Harbor Drive between Broadway and Grape Street from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Monster Jam: (2:30 p.m. Pit Party; 7 p.m. show time):  

Trains on all three lines will depart all stations every 15 minutes before and after the event. The final trains departing downtown from the 12th & Imperial Transit Center are:

Sycuan Green Line (to Santee): 10:06 p.m.
Sycuan Green Line (to SDSU): 11:36 p.m.
UC San Diego Blue Line (to San Ysidro): 12:00 a.m.
Orange Line (to Arnele Ave.): 11:56 p.m.

Recommended locations to park and ride the Trolley to both events are:

SDCCU Stadium: 5,000 free spots (Sycuan Green Line)
Old Town Transit Center: 412 free spots (Sycuan Green Line)
Palm Avenue Station: 499 free spots  (UC San Diego Blue Line)
Spring Street Station: 324 free spots (Orange Line)

Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 21)

MTS buses and Trolleys will operate on a regular weekday service schedule on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 21.  Customer support functions including The Transit Store, Compass Service Center, and Customer Service will be closed. The MTS Information & Trip Planning call center will be open with modified hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. MTS Administrative offices will be closed.

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday, 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services in 10 cities and unincorporated areas of the county.
