San Diego – Beginning tomorrow, Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) officials will host a series of four public webinars to present a proposed plan to expand San Diego’s Trolley and bus systems, which includes a Trolley to the airport, high-speed transit enhancements, 24-hour transit services, free transit for students K-12, and more. The draft plan is the latest development in MTS’ work toward a possible ballot measure in November 2020 to expand the region’s public transportation system.

The plan is designed to speed commute times, ease access to jobs and school, and reduce vehicle miles traveled, which will reduce traffic congestion, reduce air pollution and help the region achieve climate action goals.

Called Elevate SD 2020, the Metropolitan Transit System for the past year has been studying and asking the public how to improve the transit network in a way that provides immediate solutions to some of the region’s most significant challenges.

Public transportation can be a key component in the effort to solve our housing and mobility challenges, meet our goals for air quality and climate action plans, and provide real choices for residents to travel throughout the region.

Residents can sign up for the webinars by visiting ElevateSD2020.com/webinar. During the webinars, which are scheduled to last 45 minutes, participants will be able to submit questions about the plan and will be asked to participate in interactive polls throughout the presentation. Each presentation will cover the same plan details, but are being held at different times throughout the day to accommodate working professionals. Dates and times are as follows:

  • Thursday, February 13 at 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 19 at 7 a.m.
  • Thursday, February 20 at 9:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, February 25 at 5:30 p.m. (in Spanish)

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services in 10 cities and unincorporated areas of the county. In FY 2019, MTS served more than 85.3 million riders.  For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
