San Diego MTS Unveils Special Hispanic Heritage Month PRONTO Card

Artwork designed by local street artist Mr. B Baby

San Diego – In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and the Hispanic community across San Diego, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) partnered with local muralist Michelle Guerrero, professionally known as Mr. B Baby, to release a limited-edition Hispanic Heritage Month PRONTO card. The new card represents the traditions and community present in many Hispanic cultures.

“This special PRONTO card celebrates the Hispanic community’s deep roots and vibrant culture in San Diego,” said Stephen Whitburn, MTS Board Chair and San Diego City Councilmember. “We’re proud to feature the artistry of Mr. B Baby while honoring the traditions, resilience, and contributions of our Hispanic community throughout our region.”

Mr. B Baby incorporates the whimsical, vibrant style from her murals into the limited-edition card. Known for blending traditional Mexican iconography with a contemporary twist, her PRONTO card design bursts with color—featuring folkloric patterns, symbolic elements, and, of course, her signature characters.

“The characters on the card are a nod to the deep-rooted power found in our culture, where traditions, storytelling, and community have always taught us how to turn challenges into triumphs,” said Mr. B Baby. “This piece is more than a celebration of culture. It’s a reminder to celebrate how far we’ve come, to honor the resilience passed down through generations, and to recognize the beauty and power that lives within our culture.”

The commemorative Hispanic Heritage Month PRONTO card is part of MTS’s PRONTO Community Celebration Program. This card program is designed to highlight and celebrate the various communities of San Diego, focusing on the people, partners, and cultures that make the transit system and region thrive.

The concept for the PRONTO Community Celebration Program began in the summer of 2023, when MTS issued its first community focused PRONTO cards celebrating longtime partner the San Diego Padres, as well as the San Diego Pride Parade and Festival. The overwhelming demand for these first two cards from riders and community members opened the door for more future cards.

The limited-edition PRONTO cards are available for purchase ($2) beginning Sept. 15 at the MTS Transit Store, ticket-vending machines at select Trolley stations, and select community events throughout Hispanic Heritage Month. People can also call PRONTO Support to purchase a card (619-595-5636). Full details on how to purchase a limited-edition Hispanic Heritage Month PRONTO card can be found at sdmts.com/commemorative-card-program.

Future planned commemorative PRONTO card artwork includes San Diego FC (2025) and Black History Month (2026).
