PRONTO LIFE Program

The PRONTO LIFE (Low-Income Fare Eligible) Program Offers Reduced Fares for Eligible Low-Income Riders

PRONTO LIFE (Low-Income Fare Eligible) is a new MTS and North County Transit - San Diego Railroad (NCTD) reduced fare program that helps make transit more affordable for eligible riders.

The program is available to individuals actively enrolled in CalFresh, Medi-Cal, or CalWORKs who are not already participating in another reduced-fare program.

Beginning October 1, 2026, eligible riders enrolled in PRONTO LIFE will receive discounted MTS fares on their approved PRONTO card or app. Benefits include a $2.50 one-way fare, $6 daily fare cap, and a $72 monthly fare cap or monthly pass on MTS and NCTD Regional bus and Trolley Services (COASTER, Rapid Express, Rural, Access and LIFT not included.) October monthly passes will be available for purchase starting September 20, 2026.

How to apply for the PRONTO LIFE Program

Applying for the PRONTO LIFE Program is a two-step application process.

Step 1: Apply for a reduced fare online or in person at the MTS Transit Store or NCTD Customer Service Locations, by presenting a current Verification of Benefits letter showing active enrollment in CalFresh, Medi-Cal, or CalWORKs and valid ID.

Step 2: Submit a signed Authorization for Release of Information directly to the County of San Diego Human & Health Services Agency (HHSA), Self-Sufficiency Services (SSS) for eligibility to be verified.

In order to verify active benefit enrollment with the County of San Diego Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA), Self-Sufficiency Services (SSS) this release must be on file with the County. If it is not on file, they will be unable to provide verification, and the application will be denied.
