San Diego- The 2023 Padres season is expected to have a record-breaking number of sellout games, including Opening Day on Thursday, March 30. To help provide a better gameday experience, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and San Diego Padres are encouraging fans to take transit to the games. Taking the Trolley to Petco Park is a cost-effective way to avoid downtown traffic, parking fees and get to the game faster. Extra service will be provided on the Trolley for Opening Weekend and all season long.

Last season, an average of 7,000 fans took the Trolley to Padres games on sellout gamedays. The Padres and MTS have partnered on an educational promotional campaign in 2023 to help encourage even more fans to take the Trolley this season. As part of the joint marketing efforts, fans will see wrapped Trolleys, featuring Padres players, go into service this week, reminding them that transit is the easy way to get to Petco Park all season long.

To help make the game day experience better for fans, MTS will offer enhanced service to and from Petco Park throughout Opening Weekend. Trolley service will run a minimum of every 15 minutes or better both pre- and post-game.

Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31 (6:40 p.m.) and Saturday, April 1 (5:40 p.m.):

  • Pre-Game: Normal Trolley service will run every 15 minutes on all three lines.
  • Post-Game: 15-minute service will be extended on the UC San Diego Blue Line north to UTC and the Green Line east to Santee, until approximately 45 minutes after the game ends. Additional 7.5-minute service on the Green Line to SDSU will be added as needed. Normal 15-minute service on the UC San Diego Blue Line south to San Ysidro, and 30-minute service on the Orange Line will run, with extra trips added as needed.

Sunday, April 2: 1:10 p.m.

  • Pre-Game: Normal Trolley service will run every 15 minutes on all three lines.
  • Post-Game: Normal 15-minute service will run on all three lines, with extra 7.5-minute service added to the Green Line as needed.
