All three Trolley Lines provide access to the heart of Mardi Gras and Monster Jam events
San Diego – Monster Trucks and Mardi Gras are soaking up the spotlight in downtown San Diego on Saturday night as the two events are scheduled simultaneously. MTS has scheduled extra Trolley service to accommodate more than 70,000 people expected to attend the two events.
Additionally, MTS’s mobile ticketing app, mTicket, is active for both events, allowing attendees to purchase Trolley tickets on their smartphones and bypass the ticket vending machine.
Saturday’s Trolley service frequency will vary between 7.5 minutes and 30 minutes depending on the time of day. Service will be the highest immediately before and after the events. Last trains to leave downtown from key locations are:
- Green Line (to Santee) – 1:08 a.m. from Gaslamp Quarter Station
- UC San Diego Blue Line (to San Ysidro) –12:36 a.m. from Fifth Avenue Station
- Orange Line (to El Cajon) –12:25 a.m. from the Fifth Avenue Station
Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras: Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and the parade starts at 9 p.m. Event concludes at midnight. By Trolley, the best way to get there is by taking the UC San Diego Blue or Orange Line to the Fifth Avenue Station and walk down 4th Ave. to E Street. Revelers riding the Green Line can transfer to the Orange Line at Santa Fe Depot or walk to the event from the Gaslamp Quarter Station.
Monster Jam: The excitement begins at 7 p.m. and concludes around 9:30 p.m. By Trolley, the best way to get there is by using any of the three Trolley lines. All lines drop off fans steps away from Petco Park at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center.
The best locations to park and ride to downtown San Diego are:
- Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots
- Old Town Transit Center: 412 free parking spots
- Palm Avenue Station: 499 free parking spots
- Spring Street Transit Center: 324 free parking spots
To avoid Trolley ticket lines and speed up the boarding process after the event, fans can purchase and store Trolley passes right on their smartphones at any time prior to arriving at transit stations by using mTicket.
