Ghouls and Ghosts: Halloween Travel Made Easy – Take Transit!

San Diego –A weekend full of Halloween events is on the horizon, and party goers will have plenty of options to celebrate. The Metropolitan Transit System’s Trolley and bus service provides easy access to the festivities, and avoids the hassles of parking and surge pricing from rideshare companies.

 

Getting to San Diego’s top Halloween events:

 

WCKD Village:

For the first time, MTS has partnered up with WCKD Village to allow partygoers to purchase a 1-day pass Trolley through their ticketing system. Add-on your Trolley passes for only $6 at check-out.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and all three Trolley lines stop just blocks away from the entrance. Important details:

The Gaslamp Quarter Station is served by the Sycuan Green Line, approximately four blocks to the event entrance. The Park & Market Trolley Station is located just four blocks from the event and it is served by both the Orange and UC San Diego Blue Line.

 

The final trains departing downtown are:

Sycuan Green Line (to SDSU): 11:36 p.m. (Gaslamp Station)
UC San Diego Blue Line (to San Ysidro): 11:57 p.m. (Park & Market Station)
Orange Line (to El Cajon): 11:53 p.m. (Park & Market Station)

 

Hazard Center’s  Mall-O-Ween:

This kid-friendly jamboree will offer fun and frights for all ages and feature a costume contest, carnival games, arts and crafts, refreshments and more. The Sycuan Green Line takes you to the heart of the celebrations. Riders may take the Trolley and get off at the Hazard Center Station located at the entrance of the event

Recommended park and ride locations are:

SDCCU Stadium: 1,500 free spots (Sycuan Green Line)
Old Town Transit Center: 412 free spots (Sycuan Green Line, 15 minutes to downtown)
Palm Avenue Station: 499 free spots (UC San Diego Blue Line, 23 minutes to downtown)
Spring Street Station: 324 free spots (Orange Line, 26 minutes to downtown)

 

Balboa Park Family Day

Enjoy a culturally inspired kickoff to your Halloween festivities at the region’s largest free Halloween carnival.

Bus Service to Balboa Park:

            Avoid traffic and take the Rapid 215. This route is a one-seat ride between SDSU and Downtown San Diego via El Cajon Blvd. and Park Blvd.  This route goes right through Balboa Park, conveniently dropping riders off at entrance of event.

Other convenient routes for Balboa Park:

  • Route 7
    • Runs every 15 minutes most of the day
  • Route 3
    •  Runs every 30 minutes most of the day
  • Route 120
    •  Runs every 30 minutes most of the day

Weekend Specials! On Saturday and Sunday MTS allows up to two children (age 12 and under) to ride free with a fare-paying adult (age 18 or older) on all MTS routes.

 

To avoid station ticket machine lines and to speed up boarding, MTS recommends passengers purchase passes ahead of time using the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app.

 

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services in 10 cities and unincorporated areas of the county.
