MTS Adds Green Line Service for the Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show

San Diego Bay fireworks show anticipated to draw more than 250,000 spectators

San Diego, CA – With more than 250,000 people expected to attend the Big Bay Boom fireworks show over San Diego Bay, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is adding service on the Green Line and advising spectators to take the Trolley to downtown San Diego to avoid traffic delays and parking hassles.

Enhanced service on the Green Line between Qualcomm Stadium and downtown San Diego will begin at 6:08 p.m., with trains departing every 7.5 minutes. If attendees are planning to arrive early or stay late, Trolley and bus holiday schedules will be in effect.

All three MTS Trolley lines provide direct service to downtown San Diego, and the Green Line – which runs from Santee to various stations along the Embarcadero and Little Italy – brings fans steps away from the largest fireworks shows in San Diego County.

Recommended viewing locations are Seaport Village, North Embarcadero and the San Diego County Administration Center Waterfront Park, which are all served by the Green Line Trolley. Attendees who ride the Trolley will avoid traffic delays and can park for free at one of many park-and-rides available on MTS’s three light rail lines.

Fireworks will launch at 9 p.m. from four barges stationed in the north end of San Diego Bay. A music simulcast is available on The Walrus 105.7 FM. After the show concludes, frequent Trolley service will resume on all three Trolley lines.

MTS also recommends spectators buy day passes before boarding the Trolley on their way to the Big Bay Boom to save time and avoid ticket lines after the festivities. Day passes are $5 for people with Compass Cards. There is a $2 fee for day passes purchased without a Compass Card. When arriving at stations, passengers can purchase a one-way ticket or day pass from the ticket vending machines located at all stations.

MTS operates three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway and more than 90 bus routes. For more information on how to save money by using public transportation, go to www.sdmts.com.
