MTS Announces Memorial Day Schedule, Adds Extra Trolley Service for Sports Fans

Expect Sunday service on Memorial Day; added Trolleys for Padres, SDFC, and Wave fans

San Diego – This weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and big crowds are expected across San Diego. In observance of Memorial Day, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule for buses and Trolleys on Monday, May 26. Regular weekday schedules will resume on Tuesday, May 27.

San Diego will host several major sporting events this weekend, drawing tens of thousands of fans to Snapdragon Stadium and Petco Park. To accommodate the high volume of fans, MTS will ramp up Trolley service before and after each event.

  • Saturday, 1:45 p.m. – San Diego FC vs. LA Galaxy
    MTS will boost Green Line service to and from Snapdragon Stadium to make the gameday experience more seamless for fans. Service details are available on the MTS San Diego FC vs. LA Galaxy webpage.
  • Sunday, 7 p.m. – San Diego Wave FC vs. North Carolina Courage
    Extra Trolley service will again support fans traveling to the pitch at Snapdragon Stadium. Fans can visit the MTS San Diego Wave FC vs. NC Courage page for full info.
  • Monday (Memorial Day), 5:40 p.m. – San Diego Padres vs. Miami Marlins
    Petco Park welcomes the Padres back for a holiday homestand. Fans can ride the UC San Diego Blue Line, Orange Line, or Green Line directly to the ballpark. Additional service will run before and after the game. Full details on the MTS Padres vs. Marlins webpage.

Fans can skip traffic and high parking costs by using any of MTS' free Park & Ride lots, conveniently located throughout the Trolley network. A full list of Park & Ride lots is available on the MTS website.

Memorial Day (May 26) Service Information:

  • All Trolley lines and bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.
  • No service will be provided on Rural Routes 891, 892 and 894.
  • Rural Route 888 will not operate, instead it will operate on Tuesday, May 27.
  • MTS Access subscription passengers who still want service must call ahead of time to arrange their transportation.
  • MTS Information and Trip Planning will be open with modified hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • PRONTO Support Center, the Transit Store and Customer Service offices will be closed.
  • All Support Services will re-open for normal hours on Tuesday, May 27.

On Memorial Day, MTS’s Vintage Trolley will operate on the Silver Line. The very first iconic red San Diego Trolley, the 1001 U2, will operate on a downtown loop. The Silver Line Vintage Trolley departs from the 12th & Imperial Transit Center every hour, starting at 9:07 a.m. with its last trip departing at 3:07 p.m. Passengers can also board at any of the downtown stops serviced on this route (see map here). It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the downtown loop.

MTS will have its Friends Ride Free holiday promotion in effect. Every fare-paying adult passenger can bring one guest on board for free. Youth ride free with a Youth PRONTO card/account through the Youth Opportunity Pass Program.
