MTS Boosting Trolley Service for Holiday Bowl and Parade

Fans using Compass Cloud ticketing app can bypass Trolley line after the game!

San Diego – The Metropolitan Transit System will boost Trolley service to accommodate the large crowds expected for both the Holiday Bowl and Holiday Bowl Parade on Thursday, December 28.  The Michigan State Spartans and the Washington State Cougars each bring nationally ranked teams and loyal fan bases to help make this bowl game a live and festive atmosphere.

MTS recommends that fans use the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app to speed up boarding and convenience. A $5 Day Pass works for traveling to the parade and the game!

Holiday Bowl Parade (10 a.m. step off): America’s largest balloon parade marches on North Harbor Drive in downtown San Diego and there are prime viewing areas close to several Trolley stations. The parade route is directly accessible from all three Trolley lines. Trains will run a minimum of every 15 minutes throughout the morning, with increased frequency on the Sycuan Green Line between SDCCU Stadium and downtown. The best stops Trolley stations to access the parade route are:

  • Sycuan Green Line: County Center/Little Italy, Santa Fe Depot or Seaport Village stations
  • UC San Diego Blue Line and Orange Line: America Plaza

Getting to the Holiday Bowl (6 p.m. kickoff): The Trolley’s Sycuan Green Line drops off fans at the doorstep to SDCCU Stadium. Beginning at 1 p.m., trains will run every 7 minutes between downtown San Diego and SDCCU Stadium. In the other direction, from Santee to the stadium, trains will run every 15 minutes.

After the Game: Once crowds begin to leave, extra trains will begin departing the stadium with greater frequency as needed. Last trains from SDCCU Stadium are as follows:

  • To the Gaslamp Quarter/Convention Center area: 12:38 a.m.
  • To SDSU: 12:07 a.m.
  • To Santee: 11:07 p.m.

Skip the Crowd with the Cloud! – Compass Cloud users can bypass the Trolley line after the game through the Compass Cloud express lane on the west side of the Trolley station ramp. The Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app allows fans to avoid ticket vending machine lines, and purchase tickets at any time right from their smartphones.  Multiple tickets can be purchased on one smartphone too, making it easy for families traveling to the game together. Park and Ride! – Finding the best place to park and ride the Trolley is also important! Prime park and ride locations for the game are:

  • Grantville Station: 254 free parking spots (Sycuan Green Line, 4 minutes to stadium)
  • Grossmont Transit Center: 404 free parking spots (Green/Orange Lines, 17 minutes to stadium)
  • Old Town Transit Center: 412 free parking spots (Sycuan Green Line, 14 minutes to stadium)
  • Amaya Drive Station: 236 free parking spots (Green/Orange Line 19 minutes to stadium)
