San Diego – The Metropolitan Transit System is increasing Trolley service to accommodate the tens of thousands of monster truck fans descending on Downtown’s East Village for the annual Monster Jam at Petco Park. With some Monster Jam activities beginning as early as 2:30 p.m. and the show anticipated to end at 9:30 p.m., heavy traffic can be expected surrounding Petco Park throughout the day. Event attendees are encouraged to forget about traffic and parking jams and just enjoy Monster Jam by taking MTS to the ballpark.
Monster Jam: (2:30 p.m. Pit Party; 7 p.m. show time):
Trains on all three lines will depart all stations every 15 minutes before and after the event. The final trains departing downtown from the 12th & Imperial Transit Center are:
Sycuan Green Line (to Santee): 10:21 p.m.
Sycuan Green Line (to SDSU): 11:36 p.m.
UC San Diego Blue Line (to San Ysidro): 12:00 a.m.
Orange Line (to Arnele Ave.): 11:56 p.m.
Passengers taking the Sycuan Green Line to the Pit Party should exit at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center. Passengers going directly to Petco Park can exit at the Gaslamp Quarter Station. Passengers taking the Orange or UC San Diego Blue Line should exit at 12th & Imperial Transit Center for the Pit Party and the ballpark.
Recommended locations to park and ride the Trolley to both events are:
SDCCU Stadium: 5,000 free spots (Sycuan Green Line)
Old Town Transit Center: 412 free spots (Sycuan Green Line)
Palm Avenue Station: 499 free spots (UC San Diego Blue Line)
Spring Street Station: 324 free spots (Orange Line)
Skip the Trolley ticket line with the Cloud - To avoid station ticket machine lines and to speed up boarding, passengers can purchase passes ahead of time using the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app. Passes are only $6 and work on both the bus and Trolley all day long. Multiple Compass Cloud tickets can be purchased on one smartphone, making it easy for families traveling together.
Kids ride free! Families going to Monster Jam can save big by taking MTS. On weekends, two children 12 and under ride for free with every paying adult.
MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway.
