MTS adding extra Trolley service after the event to accommodate crowds
San Diego – A crowd of 20,000 is expected to flock to Downtown for San Diego’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day bash—ShamROCK 2018. The event, which celebrates its 24th year, kicks off at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 17th. To accommodate the crowds, MTS is boosting Trolley service after the event on all three Trolley lines.
ShamROCK will feature 50,000 square feet of Astroturf covering parts of the Gaslamp Quarter and East Village, three stages with non-stop music and other activities throughout the afternoon until midnight. Saturday’s forecast calls for evening shine, but ShamROCK’s still got you “covered” just in case of an Irish sprinkle! All tickets come with an Irish Mist Party Poncho and there will be six huge covered Clover Club Party Pavilions to keep the shenanigans going into the wee hours of the night.
Riding Green for St. Patrick’s Day: Those attending ShamROCK can take the Sycuan Green Line to the Gaslamp Quarter Station and walk to the event’s entrance located at Fifth Avenue and G Street. Green Line Trolley service will operate every 15 minutes leading up to the event. MTS will add Trolley service from the Gaslamp Quarter Station after the event, with the last two eastbound trips to SDSU at 12:08 and 12:32 a.m. There is ample free parking for passengers at SDCCU Stadium, which is only about a half hour trip from downtown.
UC San Diego Blue and Orange Lines: Trains will depart all stations every 15 minutes most of the day on both lines. Late-night train times after ShamROCK festivities conclude at midnight are as follows:
UC San Diego Blue Line (toward San Ysidro) will depart at 12:27 p.m. from the Park & Market Station
Orange Line (toward El Cajon) will depart at 12:30 p.m. from the Park & Market Station
Keep Track Closures in Mind: Due to construction work, the Orange and UC San Diego Blue Lines will not operate between America Plaza and City College this weekend. Passengers should use the Park & Market Station which is just a short walk from the ShamROCK entrance.
Skip the Crowd With the Cloud: Fans can not only save money by choosing transit, but can also save time by using the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app. The app allows fans to avoid ticket lines at Trolley stations and download a $5 Day Pass right to their smartphone. Riders can download up to 10 passes per phone, making it a great option for friends traveling together.
