MTS Increasing Trolley Service for Aztecs Season Opener and Sky Show

Special Promotion: Two kids 12 & under can ride free with each paying adult to the game!

San Diego – Large crowds are expected to rush former Qualcomm Stadium for San Diego State Aztecs season opener against the UC Davis Aggies and Sky Show fireworks on Saturday, and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is ramping up Trolley service to accommodate the crowds. MTS recommends that fans taking the Trolley use its mobile ticketing app called Compass Cloud, to speed up boarding and add convenience for riders.

MTS Services to the stadium - The Trolley’s Green Line drops off fans at the doorstep to the stadium. Trains will depart most Green Line stations every 15 minutes throughout the day and MTS will increase the number of pre- and post-game trains. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. and increased service begins at 2:30 p.m. between Gaslamp Quarter and Qualcomm Stadium. After the game, extra Green Line service will be operating in both directions as needed. Fans are strongly encouraged to travel early as trains will be crowded or at capacity after 4 p.m.

Skip the Crowd with the Cloud! - Earlier this year MTS launched Compass Cloud, a new mobile ticketing app that works great for Aztecs football fans. The app allows fans to avoid Trolley ticket lines and purchase tickets at any time before the game right from their smartphones.  And as a bonus Compass Cloud users can bypass the Trolley line after the game through the Compass Cloud express lane on the west side of the Qualcomm Stadium Station ramp. Multiple Compass Cloud mobile tickets can be purchased on one smartphone too, making it easy for families traveling to the game together. For more information, visit the Compass Cloud webpage.

Finding the best place to park and ride the Trolley is also important! Prime park and ride locations for the game are:

  • Grantville Trolley Station: 404 free parking spots (4 minutes to stadium)
  • Old Town Transit Center: 412 free parking spots (14 minutes to stadium)
  • Hazard Center Station: 1,500 free parking spots (lower level only; 6 minutes to stadium)
  • El Cajon Transit Center: 469 free parking spots (23 minutes to stadium)

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services in 10 cities and the county. In FY 2017, MTS served more than 88 million riders.
