MTS Increasing Trolley Service for Aztecs Season Opener and Sky Show

San Diego – Large crowds are expected to rush SDCCU Stadium for the San Diego State Aztecs’ season opener against Sacramento State on Saturday, and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is ramping up Trolley service to accommodate the crowds. After the game, the 43rd  annual KGB SkyShow will fill the sky with the largest fireworks show in the area. MTS recommends that fans taking the Trolley use its Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app to speed up boarding and add convenience for riders.  This game attracts one of the largest crowds of the season.

MTS services to the stadium - The Trolley’s Sycuan Green Line drops off fans at the doorstep to the stadium. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

  • Trains will depart most Green Line stations every 15 minutes throughout the day
  • MTS will increase the number of pre- and post-game trains
  • Increased service begins at 3 p.m. between SDSU Transit Center and SDCCU Stadium
  • Increased service begins at 4 p.m. between Old Town Transit Center and SDCCU Stadium
  • During and after the game, extra Sycuan Green Line service will operate in both directions, with more frequent departures immediately following the fireworks

Skip the Crowd with the Cloud! – MTS is allowing attendees who the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app to bypass the Trolley line after the game. There’s a Compass Cloud express lane on the west side of the SDCCU Stadium Station ramp. Multiple Compass Cloud mobile tickets can be purchased on one smartphone too, making it easy for families traveling to the game together. For more information, visit the Compass Cloud webpage.

Finding the best place to park and ride the Trolley is also important! Prime park and ride locations for the game are:

  • Hazard Center Station: 1,500 free parking spots (lower level only; 6 minutes to stadium)
  • Old Town Transit Center: 412 free parking spots (15 minutes to stadium)
  • Grantville Trolley Station: 404 free parking spots (4 minutes to stadium)
  • El Cajon Transit Center: 469 free parking spots (23 minutes to stadium)

Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services in 10 cities and the county. In FY 2017, MTS served more than 88 million riders.
