MTS Memorial Day Weekend Service Schedule and Promotions

Free Summer Coronado Shuttle in back! Service begins Friday, May 27

San Diego –  Memorial Day weekend marks some important service changes for the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), including free service on popular summer bus routes. MTS will also operate on a Sunday service schedule on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.  All service changes can be found on the MTS website.

Free Coronado Summer Shuttle: The City of Coronado is sponsoring free rides and extended service on Route 904 for the ninth year. The free shuttle will operate daily, every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. – 9:30 p.m., from May 27 through Labor Day, September 5. The City of Coronado will be hosting a kickoff event on Friday, May 7.

Padres Home Stand Games: Padres are expecting multiple sell-out games this weekend against the Pirates. Fans can skip the traffic and parking costs by taking any Trolley line to Downtown. MTS runs extra service before and after the game, as needed. Visit sdmts.com/padres to find the easiest way to get to PETCO Park.

Promotions: Families and friends can take advantage of several MTS fare promotions to travel on MTS for less!

  • Youth ride free with a Youth PRONTO card/account. Thanks to the Youth Opportunity Pass program, anyone 18 and under can ride for free at any time on MTS and NCTD. Download the app or get your Youth PRONTO card! 
  • Friends Ride Free - Every fare-paying adult passenger can bring one guest on board for free.
  • Riding MTS to the Beach: San Diegans can shake off the ‘May Gray’ by spending the unofficial start of the summer at one of the many beaches accessible by MTS service. 

Pacific Beach/Mission Beach

  • Route 8: Old Town –Mission Beach – Pacific Beach – Balboa Ave. Transit Center
    • Runs every 15 minutes on Saturday, and 20 minutes most of the day Sunday and Monday
    • Direct connection from the UC San Diego Blue Line to the beach at Balboa Ave. Transit Center
  • Route 9: Old Town – Sea World
    • Runs every 30 minutes most of the day all weekend
  • Route 27: Kearny Mesa – Clairemont – Balboa Ave. Transit Center – Pacific Beach
    • Runs every 30 minutes all weekend.
    • Direct connection from the UC San Diego Blue Line to the beach at Balboa Ave. Transit Center

La Jolla:

  • New! UC San Diego Blue Line connections to the beach from Balboa Ave. Transit Center
  • Route 140: Express service to downtown La Jolla from the UC San Diego Blue Line at Balboa Ave. Transit Center. Service is every 30 minutes all weekend.
  • Route 30: Old Town – Pacific Beach – La Jolla – UTC
    • Runs every 30 minutes most of the day all weekend

Ocean Beach

  • Route 35: Old Town – Ocean Beach
    • Runs every 30 minutes most of the day

San Diego Bay

  • Rapid 215: SDSU – City Heights – North Park –Hillcrest – Downtown 
    • Runs every 15 minutes most of the day
  • Rapid 235: Escondido – Rancho Bernardo – Miramar College – City Heights – Downtown
    • Runs every 30 minutes all day

Coronado/Imperial Beach

  • Route 901: Downtown – Coronado – Imperial Beach
    • Runs every 30 minutes most of the day on Saturday, 60 minutes all day on Sunday and Monday
  • Route 933/934: Iris Avenue Transit Center – Palm City – Imperial Beach
    • Runs every 20 minutes on Saturday, and 30 minutes most of the day Sunday and Monday.

Support Services: The MTS Information and Trip Planning call center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Memorial Day, while the MTS Transit Store, PRONTO Support Center, Customer Service call center, and MTS administration offices will be closed. MTS operates more than 100 bus routes and three Trolley lines in 10 cities and unincorporated areas of San Diego. Frequencies and spans have been restored to near-pre-COVID-19 levels. Updated schedules can be accessed on the MTS website.
