MTS Ramps Up Gameday Trolley Service to Aztecs Season Opener

Fans can purchase discounted Aztecs All-Season Transit Pass for gamedays

San Diego – Football is back at Snapdragon Stadium this week as the San Diego State Aztecs face off against the Stony Brook Seawolves for the season opener. With kickoff scheduled at 7 p.m. Aug. 28, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) wants to remind fans the fast and easy way to Snapdragon Stadium is by riding the Trolley on gamedays.

MTS will make it easy to get to the games with ramped up Trolley service all season long. Additionally, Aztecs fans can ride MTS to the stadium at a discounted price. The transit agency is offering the Aztecs All-Season Pass, a discounted 6-day pass for only $20. This pass is only good on gamedays and offers a 33% discount off the regular cost to ride.

The Aztecs All-Season Pass will be available on the PRONTO app or at MTS Trolley ticket machines from Aug. 14 to Nov. 1. More details on how to purchase the discounted pass can be found at sdmts.com/aztecs-all-season-pass.

Getting to Aztecs Home Opener — Green Line

  • Pre-event Service – Trolleys depart stations every 15 minutes or better, with additional trips added between 4:20 and 7:40 p.m. from San Diego State to Stadium Station.
  • Post-event Service – Trolleys depart Stadium Station every 15 minutes or better in both directions, with extra trips added to San Diego State and Downtown as needed until crowds diminish.

Parking Options

Fans can park at one of MTS’ free Park & Ride lots throughout the Trolley system. The most convenient locations are:

  • Old Town Transit Center (Green Line and UC San Diego Blue Line North – 400+ free parking spots)
    • Overflow parking option available across the street at Caltrans District 11 – After 5 p.m. Weekdays & All Weekend Only (4050 Taylor St., San Diego, CA, 92110 – 300+ additional free parking spots)
  • Morena/Linda Vista (Green Line – 200 spaces, most parking available off Friars Road)
  • Grossmont Transit Center (Green Line and Orange Line – 220 free parking spots)
  • El Cajon Transit Center (Green Line and Orange Line – 400+ free parking spots)
  • Amaya Drive (Green Line and Orange Line – 230 free parking spots)

Easy Ways to Pay Your Fare

Contactless Payment: Fans now have the option to simply tap a credit card or other contactless payment options, such as a smartphone or smartwatch, on a station validator to pay for a one-way ride ($2.50, valid for two hours). This allows fans to bypass the ticket machine and speed up boarding times. 

PRONTO: Fans can download the PRONTO app in advance and load at least $5, which covers a round-trip fare for adult riders. All riders must tap or scan on Trolley platform validators to activate their pass prior to boarding.

Every person needs their own payment option, you cannot buy fares for multiple people on the same account, card or payment method.

Youth ages 18 and under with a registered Youth PRONTO card or app account can ride free with the Youth Opportunity Pass.
