MTS to offer extra Trolley service for sporting events
San Diego – With a packed lineup of sporting events drawing large crowds across San Diego this Labor Day weekend, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will boost Trolley service to Petco Park and Snapdragon Stadium, offering fans a convenient way to avoid traffic and parking hassles.
In observance of Labor Day, MTS buses and Trolleys will operate on a Sunday service schedule on Monday, Sept. 7. Regular weekday service will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.
To accommodate the anticipated surge in ridership, MTS is providing event-specific Trolley service details below
Friday, Sept. 4, to Sunday, Sept. 6 – San Diego Padres vs. New York Yankees
The San Diego Padres next home series is against the New York Yankees. The UC San Diego Blue Line, Orange Line or Green Line take fans directly to the ballpark. Service will run every 15 minutes on all three lines prior to and after each game, with extra trips as needed. Full details on the Padres vs. Yankees webpage.
Saturday, Sept. 5 – San Diego State Aztecs vs. Portland State Vikings
With the return of Aztecs football, MTS will boost Green Line service to and from Snapdragon Stadium to make the gameday experience more seamless for fans. Extra Trolley service (every 7.5 minutes) will run between downtown and the Stadium Station starting approximately two hours pre-game. Fans are encouraged to travel early with a Padres game (vs the Yankees) also on Saturday evening. Service details are available on the San Diego State Aztecs vs. Portland State Vikings event webpage.
Monday (Labor Day), Sept. 7 – San Diego Padres vs. Washington Nationals
On Labor Day, the Padres will face the Washington Nationals. Fans can ride the UC San Diego Blue Line, Orange Line or Green Line directly to the ballpark. While Trolley service will run on a Sunday service schedule most of the day, added pre-game service along the Green Line will run between the Stadium Station and downtown starting two hours prior to first pitch. Fans can skip traffic and high parking costs by using any of MTS' free Park & Ride lots, conveniently located throughout the Trolley network. A full list of Park & Ride lots is available on the MTS website.
Labor Day (Sept. 7) Service Information:
- All Trolley lines and bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- No service will be provided on Rural Routes 891, 892 and 894.
- Rural Route 888 will not operate; instead, it will operate on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
- MTS Access subscription passengers who still want service must call ahead of time to arrange their transportation.
- Vintage Trolley will operate on Saturday, Sept. 5, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- MTS Information and Trip Planning will be open with modified hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- PRONTO Support Center, the Transit Store and Customer Service offices will be closed.
- All Support Services will re-open for normal hours on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
To commemorate Labor Day, MTS will have its Friends Ride Free holiday promotion in effect on Sept. 7. Every fare-paying adult passenger can bring one guest on board for free. Youth ride free with a Youth PRONTO card/account through the Youth Opportunity Pass Program.
