Trolleys and buses running at normal service levels for Cesar Chavez Day, March 31
 
San Diego- As the Padres begin their most anticipated season in years, new state guidelines have allowed for up to 20% capacity at Petco Park to start the season. The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) wants to remind those going to Opening Day or heading downtown for the atmosphere that transit is a great option with Trolleys serving all stations every 7-15 minutes most of the day. First pitch is at 1:10pm. Important transit service information includes:

Sycuan Green Line (Santee – Mission Valley – Old Town – Gaslamp Quarter)

  • Trolleys depart stations every 15 minutes most of the day
  • Park and ride pro tip: Old Town Transit Center
  • Best station to access Petco Park: Gaslamp Quarter Station
  • MTS staff will be welcoming passengers at the Gaslamp Quarter Station with giveaways from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Orange Line (El Cajon – La Mesa – Lemon Grove – East Village)

  • Trolleys depart stations every 15 minutes most of the day
  • Park and ride pro tip: Euclid Transit Center
  • Best station to access Petco Park: 12th & Imperial Transit Center

UC San Diego Blue Line (San Ysidro – Chula Vista – National City – East Village)

  • Trolleys depart stations every 7 minutes most of the day
  • Park and ride pro tip: E Street Station in Chula Vista
  • Best station to access Petco Park: 12th & Imperial Transit Center

Great bus service to downtown

MTS has 22 bus routes with stops in the downtown area including Rapid 215 (SDSU – Downtown) and Rapid 235 (Escondido – Downtown). Fans can use the MTS Trip Planner function or OneBusAway app to find the transit trip that works best 

Touchless Payments

  • Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app allows fans to avoid ticket vending machines and buy tickets their smartphones. Multiple tickets can be purchased on one phone too.

  • Avoid high costs for parking and ride buses and Trolleys all day long for only $6

Free Park & Ride

  • Dozens of transit centers allow for free parking when taking the Trolley to the game

Partnership with Lyft

  • MTS has partnered with Lyft so fans may also use the Lyft app to get real time bus and Trolley schedule information to help with their first and last mile trips.

Cesar Chavez Day, March 31: Wednesday is Cesar Chavez Day - a state-observed holiday - and MTS bus and Trolley will operate a normal weekday schedule. For MTS Access, all subscription trips are maintained for this day.

Transit Store and Customer Service will be open regular business hours 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Compass Service Center is open 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. MTS Information and Trip Planning will also open regular business hours, 5:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. MTS Administration Offices will be closed for the day.
MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines across 10 cities and unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Frequencies and spans have been restored to near-pre-COVID-19 levels. Updated schedules can be accessed on the MTS website. MTS requires people to wear face coverings at all times, and practice physical distancing when possible.
