MTS Trolley Special Event Service in Play for Poinsettia Bowl

Trolley service will be increased to 7-minute frequencies to accommodate fans

San Diego – To accommodate large crowds expected for the Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday, December 23rd, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is scheduling extra trains and advising fans to purchase tickets using the MTS mobile ticketing app to speed up the boarding process and bypass boarding lines after the game.

The 11th annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl features Boise St. vs. Northern Illinois University and kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium.  MTS will increase the number of Green Line trains providing direct service to Qualcomm Stadium beginning at 10:30 a.m., running trains every seven minutes. After the game, extra Green Line service will be operating in both directions as needed.  Fans are strongly encouraged to travel early as trains will be crowded by 11:30 a.m.

To avoid Trolley lines after the game ends, passengers who have downloaded and purchased their Trolley tickets on mTicket, MTS’s free mobile ticket app, will have access to an exclusive express line on the west side of the ramp that bypasses the general line. Fans can purchase and store mTickets on their smart phones at any time prior to arriving at transit stations. Multiple mTickets can be purchased on one smart phone too, making it easy for families and friends traveling together. To download the app, visit www.sdmts.com/mTicket.asp. Fans can also find the app by searching for “mTicket” in the App Store or on Google Play.

In addition to one-way and day passes on Compass Cards, MTS has printed a limited quantity of commemorative Poinsettia Bowl Trolley passes. The $6 commemorative day passes are sold at select ticket booths along the Green Line. Commemorative day passes provide unlimited rides on all Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes.

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services. MTS set a new record in FY 2015 with 96.7 million riders. For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
