MTS Trolley Special Service for Saturday’s Billy Joel Concert at Petco Park

San Diego – Billy Joel returns to San Diego for the first time in 15 years, performing one show at Petco Park on Saturday night. The concert is sold out and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is offering mobile ticketing and scheduling extra trains to accommodate the large crowds. The concert begins at 8 p.m.

To avoid Trolley ticket lines and speed up the boarding process, concert-goers can purchase and store Trolley passes on their smart phones at any time prior to arriving at transit stations by using mTicket, MTS’s free mobile ticketing app. Multiple mTickets can be purchased on one smart phone too, making it easy for friends traveling to the concert together. To download the app, visit www.sdmts.com/fares-passes/mobile-ticketing. Fans can also find the app by search for “mTicket” in the App Store or on Google Play.

All three Trolley lines provide direct service to Petco Park. The Green Line drops passengers off in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, which is only two blocks from Petco Park. The UC San Diego Blue Line and Orange Line both serve the 12th & Imperial Transit Center, just steps away from Petco Park.

The following service schedule will apply:

Green Line

  • Trains will depart each station every 15 minutes most of the day. Frequency will increase to every 7.5 minutes between Qualcomm Stadium and Petco Park, and will resume after the concert.
  • The last train to Santee will depart 12th & Imperial Transit Center at 11:51 p.m.

UC San Diego Blue Line

  • Rider Alert! Due to construction activity, special buses will shuttle Trolley passengers to all stations between Iris Avenue and Bayfront/E Street Stations.
  • Trains will depart all unaffected stations every 15 minutes before and after the concert.
  • The last train will depart the 12th & Imperial Transit Center at midnight.

Orange Line

  • Trains will depart all stations every 15 minutes throughout the day.
  • Last trains will depart 12th & Imperial Transit Center at 12:03 a.m.

Concert-goers can avoid the hefty downtown parking fees by parking for free at one of MTS’s park and ride stations, including:

  • Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots (Green Line)
  • 24th Street: 156 free parking spots (UC San Diego Blue Line)
  • El Cajon Transit Center: 469 free parking spots (Orange Line/Green Line)
