San Diego, Calif. – Commuters living in the I-15 corridor will have a new transportation choice when Rapid 237 begins service between Rancho Bernardo and UC San Diego on Monday, Oct. 13. To commemorate the start of service, SANDAG and MTS are offering free rides for everyone on Rapid 237 on Monday.
Rapid 237 will operate every 15 minutes during weekday rush hours from 5:30-10:30 a.m. and from 2-7 p.m. The route will have 10 stops, including Rancho Bernardo, Sabre Springs, the new Miramar College Transit Station, multiple locations along Mira Mesa Blvd., and La Jolla Village Drive at Westfield UTC mall, and the new Gilman Transit Center at UC San Diego.
The expansion of high-frequency, limited-stop Rapid transit service adds to the network of transportation options that will continue to grow in the coming years. I-15 Rapid services will take advantage of Direct Access Ramps (DAR) and the I-15 Express Lanes to improve speed and reliability. SANDAG and Caltrans recently opened a fifth DAR in Mira Mesa adjacent to Miramar College to serve Rapid, carpools, vanpools, permitted clean-air vehicles, motorcycles and single-occupancy vehicles with FasTrak® transponders.
The Miramar College Transit Station opens Sunday, Oct. 12, and features a dozen bus bays, new shelters and next-arrival signs. In addition to Rapid 237, other routes serving the station include Rapid 235 and Routes 20, 31, 110, 921 and 964. On-campus parking is available for transit riders, and the top level of the college parking garage will be available for transit riders who download a parking pass in advance from sdmts.com. The adult cash fare for Rapid 237 is $2.50 each way. A monthly pass costs $72 for adults, $36 for youth, and $18 for seniors, disabled, and those on Medicare.
Rapid 237 joins two other Rapid routes already available to the public – Rapid 235 and Rapid 215. Rapid 235 began service in June from Escondido to Downtown San Diego. Rapid 215 launches Sunday, Oct. 12, and runs between SDSU and Downtown San Diego.
MTS operates more than 90 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services.
